Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

This is what you can count on

There were layoffs in September and October, and there are more layoffs planned for November (right before Thanksgiving). and still more in December (right before Christmas). and just wait till 2021; that'll be the REAL bloodbath.

Basically, you can count on four things:

1) Layoffs at least once a month in perpetuity
2) Massive hiring to replace key riffed functions because no one in corporate understand the terms "institutional knowledge" or "long-term thinking"
3) More acquisitions (why do you think there are so many layoffs? Between the acquisitions and the SDNY lawsuit which was publicized back in April or May, someone's gotta pay those bills - don't let them blame it on covid)
4) Escaping a RIF one month does not mean you're safe the next; in fact, your name is likely to already be on a list somewhere, just with delayed notification

AN excellent post by @6kzi+17CrNr5O, bumped to the front for info.

to the third comment: right? i also like they they eliminated the HMO in california (for associates), but my friends and family still have it for 2021. though to be fair, they started pricing the PPO like an HMO two years ago. (isn't the whole point of a PPO that you don't have to be in network?) whatever.

for the first comment: you'd think that, wouldn't you? and that is how it works, in part. but i can tell you that in my org, among the 200+ associates riffed in october and november, only a small handful were low performers. they had not only 4s and 5s in there, but also greatly tenured employees holding all the remaining institutional knowledge. in some cases, SMEs were on the list (and now they're scrambling to fill the gaps).

anyone who thinks they're safe if they're a 'high performer' is looking to be surprised when they find themselves in a "1:1 touchbase" with their boss and suddenly HR joins the call.

and to the comment about staff VPs - usually but not always. we had people in our group whose directors and in some cases even staff VPs had no idea their people were on the list until their people themselves told them they'd been let go. i'd provide examples, but in the interest of anonymity, i'll refrain. but no, staff VPs are not always making these decisions.

If you want to know how RIF's work they take EVERYONE on the team and rank them. Everyone is given X amount of points based upon performance. If you were NOT MEETS in last years review you are an AUTO RIF. If there were no NO METS than they take the lowest point performers and RIF them. Think of this, if the frontline is being put on a point scale so are the higher levels.
