Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Lack of resources?

I can't say how many times I have been given others work to complete. Sometimes I do it, sometimes not. It doesn't seem to matter. Example, A guy has a project to work and isn't doing it then goes on a week vacation and day 1 I am told by skip level boss we can not wait any longer you must do this. 1st of all, managers still are not allowed to say anything remotely close to lack of resources. 2nd, managers play hot potato all day long - big issue comes up, toss out a name, wipe hands. Someone not doing work, find the guy that does work and through him in the ring.

This sounds familiar to me. Some people know how to get out of work and those who don't do all the work for them.
Bottom line - lack of people.

I don't get it! When I was a manager at other companies, it was my responsibility to coordinate vacation time and shared workload across my team. Sometimes that meant that everybody didn't get Christmas week off, but we worked it out.

'They're only words, and words are all they have to take my vacation away'. I take the vacation I'm entitled to under the 'old rules'. That was the agreement when I signed on. Anything else is a breach of contract and that is only applicable to people with honor. I usually hear people talking on this site, but sometimes, I just hear slaves. So you want others to give up their vacation to cover for you being a sheep? Time to purge your mind of that slave mentality. Maybe it's just too late for you. There's a lot of technical debt building up. Don't forget, reality always wins.

@1ozd+17Kv6yrB Earned? Ha ha! That's gone. There is no "earned" vacation any more. It's all "unlimited" and at the discretion of your managers (except you can't get any more than you would have had under the old rules).

This way Honeywell can keep the accrued vacation liability off the books and not have to have backup for those in key positions. They just have that business needs mean you can't take that week of vacation you had planned. If you get to the end of the year with vacation left over because of business needs? Well, that's no issue because you didn't "earn" a vacation bank anyway so it's YOUR problem you didn't ask for more and don't expect us to care.

Pitiful, I earned my vacation. Bullying people who take theirs is wrong. The real issue is mismanagement. Have a spine and take your vacation. There isn't enough staff and that's all there is to it. You are advocating for a return to feudal systems.

Doing others work has been going on in many organizations for years while the slackers take "me time" off. Most managers will ask more from the reliable contributors because they will get the job done.

The challenge is when your manager gets a new boss under a NDA to take out higher cost managers to hit the next quarters numbers with restructuring baked into the plan. If your manger has integrity....don't worry you will be given a good raise and new challenges.

If your manger does not have integrity, then you will be threat and all of of sudden the relationship goes cold and in 5 years you will look around the org....if you are still there and wonder why all of the slackers taking "me time" off and not completing work in a timely matter are still there and thriving. It because that is how average and poor managers rely on corporate politics to last another year.

A point here is how many Managers I work with avoid issues because afraid to get tagged with it and manage simply by tossing out names. They give no thought to what u have going on or what u know. And the work isn't getting done due to lack of resources. I have said no many times and nothing happens. But I am older and don't really care if something happens. But not sure anything will happen with so few people, at least where I work. Remember years ago when a manager would jump in and maybe lead team on big issues to make sure things were happening. Those days are gone

Let it crash and burn.
Nothing will change until they fail to fulfill a contract. And they can not blame you if you are meeting your overtime targets. Just keep a record of all your status updates showing you noted that resource are not available in case they dare write you up for it on your review.

Some people know what IS important and other people think they ARE important.

If you are missing time with family because of other people being on vacation...
well, one guess which hat you are wearing today.
