Former field engineer here. As some advice for all people on this forum, I can say towards the end of my time at Slb (April 2020) i was clouded in negativity and depression. Everyone else I worked with was extremely negative and it created an echo chamber of negativity. However, I am out of the oil industry, and can say this: you need to disassociate your identity with EM. If you prioritize your happiness outside the company, and establish a separate identity you will no longer give a sh** about all this c-ap that has nothing to do with your job. Just do your job and remain positive. Oil is going to recover and be fine. I am 100% bullish on EM, and the strong will survive this downturn!

Please don't don't stop the gravy train of waste, fraud, and abusive at EM. I dread the thought of having to get a 'real' job and have to do stuff.
There is significant difference between SLB and EM. SLB employees have realistic work products and work ethics. ExxonMobil employees live under a rock in an unrealistic world, get paid 4 times the salary that they deserve for being powerpoint puppets of managers.
In addition, they are mostly human robots with tremendous made up fear of ExxonMobil. You cannot talk to them in any setting and understand their thought process like a normal human when it comes to what they think is work.
ExxonMobil employees are much more fearful of losing their jobs than anyone else as they have not learned any worthwhile skills at EM and are completely unemployable outside ExxonMobil.
