I conda been a contender too. The American dream of be loyal, work hard and you will be rewarded was just that, a dream. Savings, that is your responsibility, the plumber next door has saved more money than you and he started just out of Jr. High. Go get a "game of life" board and see how it plays out who actually becomes a millionaire. it is usually the blue collar stiff that "saved" his moneys. You need to be responsible, for every ten dollars you bring in put one in savings, it's not to late, start now. In a year you will be dumb founded you actually have money in the bank. Once you have money you need to learn how to make your money make money....research it. If you are broke, and in debt beyond your means, you need to get a 2nd job and up off your arse and turn off the tv.

Very nearing my retirement now, I’ve had all of your sposas actualised - from the big fat savings, putting my kids through college, to being mortgage-free since 10 years back!
