So while being sold on this fair and agnostic numerical system, there is a category worth 30% around for with core values. Any clues on what this vague gem may mean?

It is 70% skills and fit and 30% ranking for past 3 years. The 70% is basically an assessment bucket that isn't well defined and can mean anything the deciders want it to be.
If you have already been with the company for 20 years, obviously you have already been a long term fit with core values, for many years already. This is bull$#!+ to subjectively now say a long term loyal employee is not a long term fit with core values
They need to pip the bad leaders before they let the bad leaders pip good people. This was all a sh–show.
It sounds as if they expect some employees to go off the rails sometime in the future and they want to dispose of them before that happens.
I remember a number of employees who signed the annual Conflict of Interest and Business Practices letters and then got fired a few months later for violations. Either they didn't understand it or didn't care. You can't instill morals and values with letters and signatures.
70 % skills and company fit. This roughly translates to 35% skills and 35% company fit with 30% being previous assessments. We all know that poorer performers are let go because they aren't really a "company fit". Sadly, I think this layoff is just going to amount to the people being ranked lower than others let go again. Give it another few months AFTER the layoffs and 8% PIP again.
gbh+17GrnLMH Exactly what our leadership did. Good ole boys club
Long term fit... as in fit in with a commodity company and a company that will increase emissions and pollution year over year, a company whose valuation will go down year over year.... what type of core values are needed there? Some shadiness perhaps, and pretending to be something you’re not.
Hopefully one of the values is work ethic, something that has been lacking in some of our millennials.
It means don’t keep the slackers who come here to complain about their own deficiencies. Bump.
20 years back I used to be on a college recruitment team and I got trained by some big names. One thing was hammered in during the training was "Look for Conformers not Innovators." Attrition rate for innovators were given 8 in 10 in first 5 years. Whereas for conformers it was just 1.
So, I believe the main core value they are looking for is Conformity and by design no one speaks up among the college hires (i.e management).
LOL it's a giant escape clause so managers can pick their friends and not necessarily the best performers. Think of the beer test – if you're a good worker but unpleasant to be around (i.e. nobody wants to grab a beer with you), then why would they want to keep you?
