First off the xom resource s—s. My case manager never even contacted me or had a conversation with me. Thus you are on your own. The first thing I would do is get your resume together. Have a professional resume writer look it over. Then update your LinkedIn. Most people and headhunters use LinkedIn. Change your status to open to work. Lastly figure out what you want to do and what companies you want to target it. I had certain companies in mind that I wanted to target and would settle for anything less. Based upon my LinkedIn I was contacted nearly once a week by a headhunter. I ultimately landed a job with one of the companies I was targeting.
Reality check.
Headhunters have to have jobs to find for you. Everyone is dumping o&g pedsonnel r/n.
I was in the original PIP group from july. I never saw placement assistance from xom as promised.
I found a job, but only through my network. Since xom was so secretive (dont talk to others and you network is here) id say good luck. Odds are you were in the ivory tower with not much network.
I know others who found jobs jumping to other industry.
Go to other industries.
When I got PILd in June, part of the severance was free services with Right Management for 3 months. I never used them - switched industries to industrial surfactant manufacturing and may never return to O&G.
Head hunter in O&G will not help right now. There are 20,000+ highly qualified candidates already on the market. You need to switch industries and maybe geographical locations. This is not just an Exxon thing this is an industry thing. Not saying it will not come back in a few years 2-5 but the fall may not be over yet, we may have 1-2 more years of contraction in this sector.
Fear not, prosperity is just around the corner.
From EM management: Face it. You effed up. You trusted us. My advice to you is to start drinking heavily.
