HR Gets Whacked!

35% of HR employees will be gone. Add to that the 8-10% NSI group recently departed and it’s a 43-45% reduction! Another 8-10% in next year’s PIP process will take it well over 50%! Ouch!!!

So, you are in the Excellent group in HR and end up one of the lucky ones who survive the involuntary layoff. Do you feel relieved? No, because you realize the 40+% of your co-workers rated below you are now gone and you will be at the bottom of a much smaller rating list in 2021. You are facing NSI and a PIP next summer. Time to get out of the oil business and get a job with Amazon or Google.

Took them six months to process the last complaint that was filed against me and determine it was frivilous. No sympathy. Goodbye......

That is a brutal hit to HR. 80% of them better start looking for a new job because given the murky involuntary layoff selection criteria, almost anyone could be on the list. Time to flee the sinking ship.

I know some great people in HR. These posts are ridiculous!

I'd like to see HR folks process their own lay off's. Since they are in HR, let them give themselves 1 year of severance each.

A 35% + 8% = 43% cut. The few that will remain know their job will likely be sent to a GBC in the future. Not a good time to be in HR.

Poetic Justice, as they co-designed and blessed the system.
Since they never advocated for workers, I won’t shed a tear or give a damn.

HR employees currently in the Excellent group will have to slide down to NI next year. That can’t be very motivating. Tough times and long term ramifications.

I was on a small site and HR routinely never returned calls or emails. If they did it took a week. That was before the pandemic. Useless and never had an answer to any questions

EM will have about 70000 employees at YE 2020. Down from 75000 at YE 2019. And I estimate 65000 at YE 2021. That is about a 13% cut ...in line with CVX an BP. It is deeper in the MPT and lower among the essential plant/field workers...So MPT ranks get a 20% hit so the important field / plant workers are only reduced by 5%.

@oba+17Ft7Wle: Ok, so there were a small number of global rank lists in HR and some U.S. employees may have benefited. So, instead of 8-10%, it may be 7-9%. Either way, it’s almost a 50% reduction. That’s huge!!

HR is mostly useless anyways.

8% was US employees in the rank group within the company, not necessarily 8% or HR. You can't add those 2 numbers together.

Well 35% seems kind of low considering how visible
HR is within the business lines. When is the last time you saw HR do something in your work group? Exactly! All they are going to do is hold a few Zoom meetings and email the supervisors some long drawn out PPT deck as talking points so the sups can do the dirty work. I say 50%, and move them into the business line so they can be accountable.
