Do you think they might sell BTEC or layoff people there? Many months back they had outside groups tour the site(they painted everything quickly to make it look better). They said it was investors. Research doesn't make money

There is no RESEARCH in BTEC chemicals, shuffling emails all day :)
BTEC is going to go.
BTEC folks if you a survive lay offs, please go work somewhere else to sustain your long term respect.
Honestly combining the 2 into one location would make sense. The way it is now with people working on one site and their boss on the other site is not smart. People have to take a cart or drive to get work done then hope they don't get stuck with a train blocking the way back. The work hours lost due to people waiting on trains is rediculous
One of the Btecs will be eliminated, no need for 2. All will be consolidated to 1 and the remaining building will be used to house people when then start plowing MOB
There will be cuts everywhere in the company. BTEC may have smaller cuts or they may be in line with company overall. No part of the company is so good or valuable that it cannot be reduced in size.
We are very over staffed for the size of our footprint and compared to competitors.
BTEC is one of the very few places where we do research that has a direct line to profit. Products have actually gone from pure development to market there, and have done so in fairly short order.
BTEC is an extremely valuable resource
I know people who were involved with that. We were basically showing how with our pilot plants and labs we can do a lot more than smaller chemical companies that basically copy us on non-commodity products. We aren’t selling BTEC.
What? Is there research in chemicals?
It's dumb to say "research doesn't make money". Tell that to Apple.
Unlike Kearl and Upstream's never-ending quest to find oil on the dark side of the moon, Chemicals actually makes money for the corporation.
highly unlikely. chemicals needs research for growth, new product lines, etc. also chemicals still makes money.
