On the other hand independents is soaring. Community members are not going to support B&N when they laid off their friends - ex booksellers. We live in close knit communities and word gets around.

Disney just laid off 28,000. And THAT place is fun.
I can't imagine how an over-priced, poorly managed corporate bookstore can keep going.
They can’t .they fired A LOT of people and customer service is suffering.
Lost 3 great workers this week ! They left because they’re not getting enough hours. Who would stay getting 10 or less hours a week ?! 2 of them went to work for Amazon and the other got a job at Subway. NOnce upon a time in a world long ago, working for Barnes was prestigious. Now employees are leaving. To work for Subway !
Our sales are so low more booksellers have been let go. It’ll just be managers left soon.
We check the sales every day as you all can and our store is doing very badly. You can't lie, everyone can see that the people are coming in, let alone spending.
The plan is working. Down with BN and Daunt.
Word gets around. Family & friends are supporting those fired & it made a difference 2 years ago. And, now !
If your local independents are soaring, I'm glad. I can tell you that this is not the case in most places. Maybe some niche stores make enough for the manager/owner to get by, but a full-fledged book store is very difficult to keep going.
