Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Independents are taking away business

In my town, sales for my independent bookstore have increased dramatically. On the other hand, my former B&N is in trouble. People don’t want to shop a dirty big store. Word has gotten around re the layoffs of booksellers. Many customers were friends with ex-booksellers and will no longer support B&N. After all, we all live in the same communities.

BN took Borders closing not as a warning. But as they won. They acted like Ha ha Borders didn’t know what they were doing.
Right before Borders closed ,their main aisle looked like trinkets and junky toys from a dollar store. What did BN do when Borders closed? Loaded the store with games, toys and junk.

More like BN did not take Borders closing seriously. That was a major foretelling of things to come. BN made their bed and it is too late for them now. They literally have months left. Down with BN and Daunt.

Good for them! BN didn't learn it's lesson from the 2018 layoffs, when 1000+ experienced booksellers were laid-off. The major publishing companies had harsh words for BN because they understood the impact it would have on the bookselling industry. Lesson not learned. Maybe closing for good will do the trick.

You can't expect loyalty unless you offer some, BN.
