Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

How much more will you take?

There is only so much a person can accept working for a company that has as many issues as this place before it starts to take its toll. From our company culture to ethics and compliance to so much more.

Also, we have a CEO who apparently thinks “we have to do better” while in the same token has no qualms about using ‘cost efficient’ measures to lay off employees during a pandemic. How is that doing better? More and more everyday this company is showing us how little it cares about us and this was the last straw for me. I can’t wait to leave this screwed up company.

You failed to copy and paste the most important part...Anthem isn't a "Covered Employer" under the FFCRA:

Covered Employers: The paid sick leave and expanded family and medical leave provisions of the FFCRA apply to certain public employers, and private employers with fewer than 500 employees.

Don't think the 80 hours of COVID PTO time was a 'gift' to the employees from Anthem. See the Department of Labor site rules for COVID - https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/pandemic/ffcra-employee-paid-leave

From the top of that DOL page:

The Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA or Act) requires certain employers to provide employees with paid sick leave or expanded family and medical leave for specified reasons related to COVID-19. The Department of Labor’s (Department) Wage and Hour Division (WHD) administers and enforces the new law’s paid leave requirements. These provisions will apply from the effective date through December 31, 2020.

Generally, the Act provides that employees of covered employers are eligible for:

Two weeks (up to 80 hours) of paid sick leave at the employee’s regular rate of pay where the employee is unable to work because the employee is quarantined (pursuant to Federal, State, or local government order or advice of a health care provider), and/or experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and seeking a medical diagnosis; or

Dear Mr Poor Attitude poster: Wellness benefits aren’t a “we care about you” perk - they’re there for employee retention purposes. That goes for all benefits. Also, only hourly associates were provided with internet reimbursement, and laptops aren’t a perk in this day and age. They sent everyone home to avoid lawsuits and bad press, and same with the COVID PTO. I appreciate the positive attitude, but you’re clueless.

A poor attitude is a choice. The company moved thousands of associates to work from home to keep safe. Then 80 hrs of sick pay overnight. Internet reimbursement + labtops. They’ve invested thousands in development opportunities. .. thousands in benefits from wellness vendors. Opportunities to volunteer, opportunities to grow.. cuts can happen, that’s anywhere.

The layoffs are a systemic issue across all sectors of Corporate America. Not defending it, just trying to help others gain a broader perspective. Read some of the other boards.
This is Corporate greed, plain and simple.
My response to the financial impact is to adapt to a minimalist lifestyle. The only spiritual defense is forgiveness that's pure and true; to protect yourself and cover their cold, corporate hearts. I've had time to process all this and can only advise taking time to do the inner work until you find your place of peace.

I am actively job searching and interviewing. It’s not encouraging at the moment as most companies are also cutting staff and most of the open positions are phantom job opportunities.
