Too many layers of management..too much time wasted on celebrating what month it is ...no month devoted to getting work done.

Agree @irbs, @1iht and @mmy; the emperor is not wearing any clothes. All that's left is a byzantine structure of intrigue and power, without an actual empire to show for it.

@1rbs+175PSYrp that is the best description of what has happened to this company I've ever read. It states clearly and concisely what I've been trying to say for years but I could never get it into the right words. Bravo.

Me too ... Back in my day (90s) technical guys had chops, they could stand up to managers. Managers had started on the ground so they had substance, they knew what they knew, what they didn't, and when to shut up and who to ask. People would question each other, fight even, on technical grounds. The wounds of the 80s were still raw, but there was a certain pride and dignity of labor and mutual respect in both technical and management.

Then the management consulting curse started -with the Quality fad. Many fads were to follow. Over time, mouthing the right words became more and more important for those on the management track. They did not need to be anchored to reality any more. They did not challenge each other - conspiracies of silence so that each others proteges would make it through. And if they don't, we'll send them back to technical, useless, but still clogging the technical pipeline so no future for the technical people.

After many years of this, technical caught on and emulated the BS themselves - can you blame them? Mouth the buzzwords,, sing the praises, and laugh all the way to the bank. Millenials were simply the nail to the coffin: all they cared to hear was how great they were and how great everything was, so, thats what everyone told them. No one challenged anyone and anything: the few fools who hadn't gotten the memo were branded negative and dropped down the seriatim

Today the company is hollowed out, both in management and technical. Years of indulging sycophants out to promote their own careers has left us unable to tell apart truth from made up truth (cough:lie), unable to use science and technology to solve problems. Everything has to be politically correct, where politically correct means align with Dallas, where Dallas has no idea who to be in today's world and doesn't even know it. Today we are headless, rudderless, skilless, amateurs, impostors, fumbling in the dark. The company does not need covid or other external factors to fail: it is imploding, collapsing in on itself.

In order to justify the high cost employees in spring, all Emre services are being mutualized with their counterparts in KL.

Just wait until a manager comes in and realizes that we are charging more for our outsourced labor to keep houston employees around.

it was good while it lasted but like all empires, it fell. I think I knew the end was near when I heard exec's boasting about touring Italy looking for marble for head office. What a white elephant. A true symbol of XOM, walled off from the real world, complete with a moat.
And the quality of leadership has been declining for years. All about throwing around stupid management buzzwords while engaging in nothing more than salary arbitrage as they moved work to lower and lower cost locations.
