IBM's Dinesh Nirmal: 'Every company is trying to automate their enterprise'

IBM vs. the public cloud giants. Nirmal said "we are in the second inning of the game."

It's this very sort of thinking that will ensure Big Bleu remains an also-ran in Cloud. To correct the analogy, The World Series has already been played and Big Bleu finished with the league's worst record and is in danger of losing their team charter.

Ibm has been run by losers for a long time. Still is. Get out while you can.

IBM is dead last in Public Cloud and will be dead last in Hybrid Cloud... They have no strategy for Hybrid Cloud... well no, they have a strategy... well, they are thinking about a strategy, but it keeps on changing every year... so essentially, they are confusing the hell out of customers and customers are not buying. In the meantime, all three top cloud providers have clear strategies!!

Way to go IBM!!!

AMZN/GOOG/MSFT wouldn't disagree.

Yep. And all three have a hybrid strategy that includes an on-prem version of their cloud stack - much more coherent than IBM's attempts to hack together their patchwork of legacy on-prem systems with Softlayer-descended cloud, or putting Power systems in the cloud.

  • the problem of the global ibm .. it does not understand .. as Nokia.. who or what is the enemy inside ...it is short-sighted and id–tic point of view .. it is not enough to say thank you ... you have to apologize for those who were mistreated and treated like rags and you should (only you should but it is obviously difficult, humanly and by image) .. recover with acts and not just words or writings, the silly marketing messages (listen ibm ... to those who decide).. regards

IBM missed the cloud boat by failing to heavily invest in disruptive cloud technology after they purchased Softlayer in 2013. They should have dove into the deep end of this emerging cloud market and gone full blast to disrupt their own SO business and computing hardware businesses and beat Amazon at the Cloud game from the start. Instead they focused on keeping the EPS and stock price up. Now they have badly lost the Cloud market leader game and are considered a Cloud Laggard. It was either a bad bet or executive stupidity that caused this mistake.

Now IBM is destined to go down the road that Nokia took in the cell phone market. Once the dominant player, Nokia was slow to embrace the smart phone since it would cannibalize their other legacy cell phone products. Then all of a sudden Apple and others destroyed Nokia's business as the smart phone became the dominant product and Nokia was left in the dust.

Right now, IBM is being left in the dust. All this talk about Cloud 2.0 and the 2nd inning is a bunch of hot air. No one thinks of IBM when they think cloud. In IT, market perception is everything. Will IBM survive and remain one of the 5 or 6 players in the industry - probably. Will they become a market leader - probably not.

This guy came out of nowhere, and now he is GM of the Cloud division... IBM at its best!!!

If you own IBM stock... I would advise to sell it ASAP... there are plenty of other tech companies that deserve your money.

What point is he trying to make? Of course hybrid cloud is the reality - all workloads are not going to the cloud and they won't remain on prem either. But this is obvious, not a revelation. AMZN/GOOG/MSFT wouldn't disagree. What does this mean for IBM? You can download K8s for free. Where's the advantage?
