Last Friday, in a PubWest webinar with Michelle Cobb, interim executive director of the association,
Daunt noted that “...the company had to go through ‘the extreme difficulty of right sizing’ for its current level of sales, which are growing slowly.”

So they’re all managers and no booksellers to manage
Pretty much ! Once Mgrs cover shifts, there’s hardly any hours left.
So they’re all managers and no booksellers to manage.
So their flattening the management field but no managers were let go or demoted only the booksellers were fired like always. Now theirs even more positions than ever and people are going to be re interviewed for their new jobs which means more booksellers will lose their jobs and managers will just get new titles. Complete b—s—.
Well, many of us would still be working at BN, but we were never given the choice—by the champion of bookselling as a career, J. Daunt—to stay. Maybe your good fortune has made you blind to the fact that so many people, who’ve tried to stick around for the long haul & because they enjoyed the job, were given the good ole middle finger for their efforts. So brag all you want about your particular store & remember a lot of us weren’t so fortunate to be kept on board.
“ The only people (former BS) that are not in my store are the ones who chose not to be... ”
Shouldn't you be WORKING instead of spending your time ON HERE?
And there is no f'n way you are beating last year sales. You might want to seek some mental help.
T R U T H !
We are busy! We recovering & getting better with every day! We are beating last years sales & profit margins! We brought back every single person who choose to come back and respected the decisions of those who chose not to. We value and respect ALL our people regardless of race, age, s-x, .... I am so sorry if you don’t have that where you are but I am proud to be a BN Mgr, I am proud of my team and yes, it hasn’t been easy but we have been fair and consistent. The only people (former BS) that are not in my store are the ones who chose not to be... and while we understand and support their decision, we miss them daily. This whole negative, no one cares thing, it’s old, dated and small- a lot of a victim-fest! Let’s all just move on... the guy in mom’s basement, the bitter old school head cashier... all of you are talented and awesome! you just have to find your place! Use your powers fir good! Be the change 3
That’s not “growing”. It’s called sinking !
Another week, more cut hours. Is that called "growing?"
?
Hardly any employees left to match hardly any sales . But the business is growing, slowly.
Sure it is.
Today is Tuesday. The cafe will be serving the Cherry Kool Aid, today.
