Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

EM Board slowing down - lingering a bit - keep eyes out

I'm not an ExxonMobil employee, up front.
I'm a grad student in Anthropology that had a little project to do.

I looked at several companies with presence on thelayoff.com.
Saw the huge bump for EM a couple months ago.
Aha - hard to deny this would be the foundation of my study - 'The Nature of Unnatural Relations in Exiting Systems of Corporate Capitalism.' Working title.

For a full 2 months - this was one of the most informative and exciting boards on the site.
Bitterness, litigation analysis, defensive offensiveness, sincere exposure of the ugliness - and not only from the 'lay-offs', but from continuing and former employees.
All possessing shares of stock!

I have to the end of November to submit first draft to Prof. Dr. Sloan.
I'll be sure to mention that a second round of the EM virus is immanent - a dissertation perhaps.

Until then - it's been great. Anonymous Anthropology is best!
See y'all again soon!

Just for clarity:
What does Immanent mean?
adjective. remaining within; indwelling; inherent.

There's also of courseL
'Iminent' (forthcoming - not an EM trait)
'Eminent' (high-standing - not an EM trait).

So let the word stand, spelling man.

@1tof+16ycczhr
I would say that depends on the position. With the entire oil industry filing bankruptcy, laying off and restructuring I would not expect those salaries to stay above average. Part of restructuring is outsourcing for cheaper labor and hiring at lower rates.

Yeah. Starbucks stock is worth more. But is their employees compensated just as well?

@ffe+16ycczhr - yep. Bought XOM stock for the 7% match. Of course that is suspended from October 1, inferring a 7% wage cut for those who elected to buy company stock. Bet they’ll a lot of employees changing their elections now!

That’s a lie Exxon manipulated the system so they could lie and say there are doing what other companies do. It was forced and unethical. A lay-off to avoid severance. You know exactly what you did. Two things XOM was good at were manipulating and bullying and the world is getting tired of it.

Don't forget, there were MANY low performing people also let go. Just about every company does this type of program, nothing new.

Exxon just threw away a lot of really good people. I hope the people on the law boards get to work together again.

I go to a pub (still) where the bricks in the wall have the thumb-prints of the brick-makers on them.
Very small thumb-prints.
That's anonymous anthropology.
Thanks for that analogy in my head.

What do you mean “cash in 401k”? Did you invest your 401k in XOM stocks?

Correction on the stock price. Today it closed at $41.32 - that’s correct. However, the lowest value in the last 52 weeks was $34.43 on March 19, 2020. Still a long way to go for many of us, before we can afford to cash in our 401(k)‘s. Back on January 7, it was $70.29.

The boards at other large Oil and Gas companies are similarly active. Would love to read your report!

Well, XOM closed at $41.32 today. Within 2 cents of it's 52 week low. Here's my 2 cents. XOM is caught in dinosaur land. To say "crudely", XOM s—s as a corporate entity. All competitors have handled current downturn MUCH better. Suggest you study XOM Management on their motivation and post the results here!
