Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Over 45 and Need Out of Retail

What is one to do that is a retail veteran over 45 and wants out? I've been in retail and with Belk a long time and I don't like the way the company is heading. I don't like feeling I could be laid off at any time, and private equity has run this company into the ground. I need a new line of work, something more secure. I have some office experience but no degree. My pay scale could be an issue due to such long service. Any thoughts or suggestions? I need to do something different with my life. Big box stores
(they don't pay well and only offer part time) or any other retail are out of the question.

Receptionist/Admin! Look for any class offered to brush up office, (mostly computer skills).

I quit belk without any notice, just stopped showing up and didn’t respond to calls, then I got a job for $4 per hour more than Belk as a receptionist at a hair salon the very next week, Monday-Saturday. 10am to 5pm off sundays, much much happier and less stress!

Look at getting out of America. What you're experiencing is the norm in America - expect for CEOs and Wall St bankers. People work like animals and are treated like garbage in the US. Fear, fear, fear keeps people working scared and afraid - perfect for exploiting them.
