Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Content Market is so Saturated

Game of Thrones, Sopranos, with so much being pumped out everything feels like it is diluted and a commodity. No premium to be had with Time Warner content. And I doubt ATT Time Warners ability to even stay within a few laps of Netflix or Apple given their propensity to starve a room for creative oxygen.

The studios are churning out lots of product, but most of it is junk. Shows like GOT are very expensive to produce and few and far between. Millions subscribed to HBO just to watch the show (I was one of them, way back in season 1). Netflix tends to go for quantity over quality. HBO has always been known for quality over quantity and that needs to remain their niche as T will never outspend Netflix. Will AT&T budget the billions needed to produce high end / must have television like GOT and how good will these shows be when they've tanked so many Warner Media jobs and canned a good number of the experienced executives who ran it before T took it over. If not, the $15 monthly for HBO Max, with no 4K, no HDR, no Atmos, no Firestick or Roku is going to continue to be yet another epic failure.

I am glad the content is commoditized. For far too long, media monopolies have chosen what we get to watch and makes kings and heroes out of actors and musicians who don't deserve the influence they have. A great chemist or biologist makes an incredible medical contribution and lives a decent life while the execs in their companies who can't add two plus two get rich. Then they hire a famous actor to do a 30 second advertisement for the product and that person makes more in 30 seconds than the scientist did in their career. Things are completely out of whack. I am thrilled that most famous actors currently have no platform at all to spew their vile garbage.
