Countdown to 2021 - BN Demise

This is it folks, the final countdown. This is the year that BN goes out of business and shutters all of their locations, including corporate. There will be, can't be any rebranding. Far too many years of negative sales growth have ruined this company. There was not enough customer service compared to the competition. I am glad they are closing, we will all get to witness the sunset of this failed 134 year old establishment. At least we will be able to buy their books at liquidation prices. Down with BN.

Lousy customer service ,equals less repeat business ,equals low sales ,equals closing.
After being closed ,the only reason people wanted BN to reopen was for a place to hang out.
Spend hours, treating it like a public library. Leave their unpaid ,already read ,books & magazines , ungratefully ,all over the place.
Can you imagine, going to another retail store, spend the day, sit on the floor, play with the merchandise, leave it on the floor or the store’s restrooms?

Barnes and Noble is failing because they forget that they were in the business of making money. You can’t allow people to hang in the store and cafe all day long and not buy anything. In magazine sales alone a store can lose over twenty thousand a week because people read them for free all day long in big stacks. Both in the cafe-where they k–l business-and on sales floor.

BN thought that their customers would blindly follow them, pay any amount, accept any date the products would arrive. And if there was a problem- YOU send the wrong item back FIRST. Then we’ll send you what you actually paid for.
or, they’ll just cancel an order. Not tell you. You’re still waiting for your order.
BAD customer service!

BN could have competed with Amazon and survived. But they chose not to price match, that is a huge downfall for them. I would say that is one of the major reasons they are going out of business. Down with BN.

ABSOLUTELY
They could’ve competed but were so full of themselves they thought people would “buy the brand”. Customers became more price savvy, BN didn’t.i always thought that was an arrogant Riggio thing. But it continues.

Who’s to blame ?
One bad CEO after another.Bad DMs that had jobs for life , it seemed. Firing full time positions to save money on health insurance.
Then sold the company to James who was known for cutting employees to the bone , replacing them with minimum wage workers and guess what ? That’s what he’s doing here.
BN should’ve continued to do well w/ .com, during the pandemic. But in all the years .com had been in business, it still stinks ! Bad customer service, making customers jump through hoops for returns. Long , poor delivery service being the main issues. Amazon grew and BN stayed the same mess.
Even without the pandemic the new owner would’ve cut more employees. The pandemic is working for him to blame cutting more full timers.

If they haven’t found other jobs, they should.

Have the people who haven't been re-hired from your stores found other jobs?

I'm reading this on my lunch break. Our whole store knows about this website and there is a lot of truth. We all discuss it.

Barnes and Nobles has competition?

Not in a brick/ mortar store.
They’ve had years to perfect their .com. It’s horrible. Long delivery times, misshipped books, bad Cust service when you call them.

Barnes and Nobles has competition? What's that, Half Price Books with cafes? Walmart's little shelf of best-sellers? If anything, it's last man standing. It's like the buggy whip manufacturers. The last buggy whip manufacturer made the best damn buggy whips you ever saw.
