Thread regarding Gulfstream Aerospace layoffs

Advice from a RIFed Guy

I see rumors here of another cut. Here is my clear-eyed assessment from the beyond. The new CFO started 8/3. He needs to get his look around and then he'll start sharpening his scalpel. This is GAC, so another big cut is not a matter of if, but when - don't kid yourself. I'd give him a quarter before he delivers the next cost reduction plan.

Here is the good news. There are good jobs out there at very solid companies less at risk of layoffs as GAC! Jobs are harder to find than a year ago from what I hear from the guys dumped in October, 2019, and take longer to land, but they are there. I'm proof.

Get your resumes in at Northrup, L3 Harris, Moog, Lockheed, Raytheon before the next cut so you get the jobs before the next glut of GAC RIFed guys hit the market. This is particularly true if you are over 40. You are in the salary and experience range GAC has a lllooonggg history of cutting loose (back to pre-2002 in my time there). If you don't have kids and other family tying you to Savannah, you'd be really short sighted to not get the heck outta there while you are in a position of strength, especially if you are at the top of your game.

Know several really great guys who survived the May RIF, saw the writing on the wall and made a move. Very smart.

What a positive and helpful post! My husband was so loyal and proud to work for Gulfstream. But he now understands how useless loyalty is. He got a job really quickly too, for MORE money, reporting to a VP (couldn't get advancement at GS with the constant lay-offs) and better benefits! Best thing is we got to leave Savannah! Yippee! Just sorry we had to spend our kids school years there with those positively dreadful schools. $100K+ out the door in tuition for Country Day. We would be in so much better shape financially and career-wise if he never would have allowed himself to be recruited by GS.

Gulfstream SSBJ? That might be a good way to win back the televangelist market. You know things are down when even Jesus wants a French trijet.

The new "ion air cleaning" system is actually oil in the bleeds.

Imagine the "ramp presence" that a Gulfstream SSBJ would demand.

LOL. The entire system is a radar gun. The ground speed of every plane on a flight plan is known.

Some customers have already modified their Gulfstream airplanes to go supersonic. Why bother taking on the regulations when they can say cruise speed just below regulations. I have not seen anyone with a speed gun up there.

@"What strategy have..."- look at their history. The GI was the first purpose built corporate turboprop. Market was captured. Same for the GII. No comparable competition. HS 125, Jetstar or maybe Sabreliners, but no real competition. They should have stayed with a supersonic program early instead of letting these start-ups do the legal and technical heavy lifting. How many SSBJ's are available at this time? As we all know, supersonic flight isn't allowed over U.S. but the trans-ocean routes are more flexible.

OP- thank you for the input. GAC dropped the ball with their post-GV marketing strategy.
