Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

Great attitudes propel great companies

I’m starting to understand why so many posting here, were axed.
Horrible attitudes, negative outlooks, and the constant need to be coddled by your employer.

Those that remained, should be proud.
Good employees propel the business forward, even in uncertain times.

Even the new folks are of a higher caliber, employee wise.

Let’s look forward to an awesome upcoming holiday season!

The OP never checks their facts. That was the coffin nail in BN’s reputation.
Firing good dedicated workers to save a buck and replace them with hired part timers. The OP disrespects those let go and berates them like they deserved what happened. Pathetic individual.

Hey OP, I don't think you actually do understand why people were "axed". It was the positions that were eliminated, not the individual person for poor performance. It didn't matter if you were a fantastic receiving manager or a terrible one...you lost your job. If you were a head cashier that hit every member card goal you were fired along with one who maybe wasn't... they were not based on anything but the job title you had. You're showing your ignorance here. There can be a lot of negativity on here...but you're gross misrepresentation of events is also not needed. Please be informed before you type.

So let me understand this- this site is the layoff.com and this fool is complaining that people who (unfortunately ) were laid off are posting on here. Upset ( no matter how long ago it occurred) they were laid off.
Kindly go to ionlycareaboutmyself.com
You have zero compassion and empirical for others. Pathetic!

Amazon treat their employees worse than cattle.
I wish people would stop pretending they are this glowing anti-B&N.

The OP is a bit harsh, but he/she makes some solid points.

I'm only part time with the company now, but when the axe fell, they
cleaned house with some employees who were there forever, but
essentially dead weight.

The company was changing due to economic issues, but they weren't.

Amazon isn’t meant as an insult.
It’s a fact of life.
Good customer service, fast shipping, good stock level. Every thing BN s—s at.
And I’m sure you’re used to losing jobs so when BN fires you you’ll have no trouble moving on to the next retail/ fast food position.

Oh no, the cliched Amazon reference, which is all you guys have left.
Get a bit more creative with the insults.

If I do get the axe, I highly doubt I’m gonna be stalking Barnes and Noble three years later, like the usual suspects.

What great company?
Barnes & Noble is a joke in the book industry and the retail industry.
Amazon will have a great Christmas season. Barnes & Noble? Not so much.

Haha, the real cowards are the whiners, also
Hiding in anonymity.
You guys are pathetic, still crying about getting laid off three years ago.

I hope you are the next to go, a–hole.

Stop ragging on the full time employees who were laid off three years ago. Let’s see how some of your middle managers take it when corporate finally gets to you because the next round of layoffs are not going to be booksellers it’s gonna be you over employed middle managers who have been at your position 10 plus years.

The person who started this tread is obviously a department manager who else could be so arrogant and out of touch. Most b and n employees are part time other than management most have to work long and hard and be liked by management to be full time or promoted to management. Moreover many Barnes and Noble employees are just over worked to begin with and disgruntled because of it. And if you were part time and got called back u got screwed over and won’t be rewarded for it while other less valued employees will earn double what you make sitting at home. It’s okay to vent this is a good place to do it.

Yeah all those ex employees trolling here s—ed. The new employees are so much better. They do a better job working less hours and no insurance. Those old ex employees thought they deserved to be treated like they mattered. Thought they deserved a livable wage and Needed to be coddled. Glad they’re all gone

The "Horrible attitudes, negative outlooks" you see are from associates who have given a lot of themselves for the company and feel cast off or betrayed.
And if you think the ones who stayed, or are new, are of a higher caliber, then your standards must be pretty low.
And we all know that if this wasn't anonymous, you would not even be posting.

ABSOLUTE TRUTH !
These cowards hide behind anonymity to spread lies and spin what’s going on.
Employees have been treated poorly for a long time and career employees were replaced with cheap, less paid ,bodies .
That’s what the company wants and that’s the caliber of employee providing customer service.

Oh please, @OP+16pXjyl4, you're just lashing out because you weren't given any additional incentive for being called back while the ones who weren't alled got to collect extra $600 for unemployment.

And if you think the ones who stayed, or are new, are of a higher caliber, then your standards must be pretty low.

So either be more supportive or get off these forums. Your toxicity isn't needed here.

Excellent post and I agree:
A lot of it comes down to a good attitude and work ethic.
I see a lot of misery and gossip on here.
I have a feeling these people were still spreading that stuff when employed by the company.
I doubt they were happy even then, and management was aware.

But, yeah, I feel like our store has the right team in place to fulfill James Daunts stellar vision for a new and improved Barnes and Noble.

The site's for people looking for support/share information/vent around being laid off or RA'd etc. You're either too young or too stupid to understand that. Imbecile.
