Thread regarding Follett layoffs

No football = no money

What happens when there is no football this fall? Big Ten and PAC 12 down, if the others follow, then I don’t see any big cash flow weekends at ND. How can the company survive without the money the fall season brings in?

Not quite true. Consultants care about the next contract they can secure. That's it. They latch on to a VP who wants to put its name on a re-org, or deck chair shuffling project and then the feed of the VP for as long as possible. They care about making the VP look good. They care that company keeps enough money to pay them. They don't care about you, your career, your job or your life. They have that in common with the VP.

Long term layoffs and outsourcing have been a hallmark for Follett since MLS was president. None of it delivered anything except minor cost reductions with no improvements to processes. What it really provided long term was resources who really don't care about the long term survival of the company.

Employees care about a company. Consultants do not. That's a fact Jack!

The family owns the company. How does one vote them out?

Fewer people with COVID. Perhaps this will allow football to return sooner than if we saw massive spikes due to 100K people screaming for the alma mater every Sat.
Poor planning, decrepit response, poor communication, lashing out at front line personnel all hallmarks of follett management AND the federal government's management of this health crisis. Can TL and the family be voted out in Nov?

ND is worth way more than a million dollars. GM used to bring in $2M plus on each of the 6 football weekends - that’s why they all had to drive out and help. You lose that plus any bowl game they would be in - easily $12-15M lost over the course of the fall in GM sales (which is more profitable product). And that’s probably a low estimate. ND is a big chunk of the pie. If they lose Calif stores, ouch.
If SEC and ACC drop, goodbye Georgia FSU Florida Miami, etc.
Lots of cash just gone. Not easy to survive without those campuses.

Wonder how the family feels about TL now? After paying double the market value for BT and with ongoing college bookstore disaster...
In the executive conference room probably looks like Mad Men with all the drinking!
