Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

How are people doing on finding new jobs?

My biggest fear right now is not being laid off, I'd actually be happy to leave this place. I'm much more worried about not being able to find a new job before I run out of money. I've been hearing some horror stories from people who've had no luck in even getting an interview, even before the pandemic. Is it really that bad?

This is the part that s—s, yeah.

I'd love to leave, this management is terrible. Started filling out applications in February... ha. Now I feel pretty much stuck just hoping I can get the severance and take a pay cut to do something more enjoyable for rest of career. Not very optimistic.

If you are in management, chances are you will be safe. It’s the workers that are being cut most of the time.

I started looking in September of last year with little to no response. I kept at it and was unfortunately laid off in April. I ended up leaving the industry and taking an offer from a company that a friend works for. Bad news, hardly anyone is hiring, and the companies that are are hiring referrals only.
Leaving NOV was a blessing, I truly hated everything about it, from the culture to the people. It was the worst job I ever had. Horribly mismanaged by the most incompetent people in the industry. Don’t get me wrong, there are a handful of good people, but the majority are a waste of DNA.
I wish you the best of luck.

So be smart and start looking for a job now just in case. You will be better prepared for any challenges if it happens. There are jobs out there, just not many in this field.
