Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Tuboscope’s in big trouble

Was recently laid off from Tuboscope. First time I’ve ever been laid off, but just have to stay positive and move on. I was talking to one of our VP’s before I left. He told me multiple times not to make any big purchases because chances are, they’d be closing the doors soon. After talking to some of my colleagues who are still there, sounds like he’s right and that’s where this company is headed. Some pretty good people there for the most part. Wish they’d cut evenly though between sales and ops teams instead of just cutting all ops personnel.

Still lots of cuts going on at Tuboscope and a lot more to come. October will be terrible.

Clawges To be fair NAM rig count has dropped by more than half so 25% feels optimistic.

I think there’s still a bunch of cuts coming. Their numbers have plummeted the last 2 quarters. Coating plants are shutting down. No plan on how regrow the business when things start to pick up. They’ve cut so much talent and experience and kept the deadweight VP’s. They’ve cut heavily already and have yet to cut one VP. How foolish are these people?

@9jkg+16nO4dkg they ran out of people to lay off that weren't VPs. Coming up on 1:1 ratio of managers to workers and they can't figure out how to cut deeper.

I don't think your VP is in know, Tuboscope is not closing it's doors. Oh and my info comes from co-workers, supervisors, managers and a VP.

No, the favor would have been for him to cut me and pay me my severance

Not to make any big purchases? Sounds, like he was doing you a favor knowing you were getting cut and not able to say it.

The VP’s don’t have anything else to do. They probably need to have someone to help them understand what is being stated here. They are draining the last bits of money from the company while doing nothing.

Uh oh...looks like the VP’s are monitoring this site now. You’d think they’d be too busy to waste time on this page.

You think Tuboscope is the only company facing these problems? Do you read or watch the news? This is going on all over our industry. The fact that you needed a “VP” to give you this advice makes me question your intelligence. Instead of whining like a toddler, why don’t you step up and be more productive and help become an asset to an organization versus getting on social media and slandering your former company?

I agree, doesn’t seem like theres anyone in control or that anyone has any type of plan. I’ve been here less then a year but I could see the issues this place has on my first day

Just trimming the fat. The unskilled are always the first to go. Get an education and get the hell out of oil and gas. You will be much better off for it. Regards.
