Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Taking the PIP plan and what could happen .

Looking at my options of PIP plan or resigning. Just wanted to ask if anyone knows what happen if I took the plan and during the plan it starts not to work out that it’s immediate termination? Or I can resign? Manager even though is putting me on the plan mentions that I can make it. Who can you believe now a days .

I’ve seen lawyers claim the waiver would be laughed out of court. Any thoughts?

People, you are not thinking straight!

If you take PIP, and are terminated, they pay you no additional $ (they claim!), but you get to keep all your rights to sue. No waivers for xom on large scale gotta be on somebody's radar as a significant risk.

Find a hungry lawyer looking to make a name for himself who'd split the winnings. Sue! Profit!!!

It's the game of who pushes the button first, wins. Your supv could terminate you anytime during your PIP and you get nothing. If you quit, you still get all your severance up to Oct 31st. Consider your supv/mgr under pressure by HR to reduce manpower, or they could be fired themselves. Will they love for you to pass you in PIP and consider their loss?

The waiver document you sign for PIL has a line that says the company will not contest your unemployment application. You can file when you are no longer on the payroll, i.e, after your last paycheck, usually October 31.

We were told the company would not fight unemployment if you choose to resign. Is this true?

You don’t state how close you are to retirement. So, work throughout the PIP and do your best. If it doesn’t work out then you can collect unemployment. If you resign, no unemployment.

As Darren would say - 'Well, golly.'
Any overseer would dread the underling taking the PIP choice.
That's an embarrassment. But a sadist's dream.

It's one or the other - PIP or PiL - really.

And irresistable - that 'PiL' - Public Image, Ltd.
Here's a very on-point tune called 'Disappointed'. Dis Appointed.

In the US at anytime if you change your mind you can convert the PIP to a PiL. You do not get an additional 3 months but finish out to the end of the 3 month date for pay and benefits if you sign their papers. For most that is 31 Oct. Happy Halloween 👻

Take the PIL. Your supervisor is not allowed to tell you that the program was meant to let you fail. Cause there will be other implications.. you cannot trust their words. Assuming 50% of the PIP-er pass.. then how is Darren Woods going to find the much needed dough to maintain the higher ground of paying dividends to “help” retail shareholders who depends on this income stream..

Take and go

Upon the PIP not being successful, do they ask you to resign again but no PIL or do they fire you

Sounds like the manager didn’t actually want to put you on the PIP plan but might have been forced to.

The risk profile of PIP is non commensurate with PIL.
For starters, there is no guarantee the PIP will last for 3 months, they can terminate you at any of the weekly/biweekly check points if they believe there is insufficient progress. You can always quit, but you get nothing. To me it sound like they would fire you before you can even quit.
By choosing PIL, you gain autonomy when to quit (within the 20 days to make the decision after communicated), but trade liability for the 3 month payment.
