Its way past thin in several critical departments. Its clear they have no intention of consolidating the many CLEC networks. Elliot will be shutting down the parts of the business that do not make money. That TDM network will be shut down quickly along with all the central offices. If you work on 5e, DMS, DSL, POTs lines, T3/T1s you will soon be out of work.
I was pushed out of Field Ops a few years back after almost 20 years. In hindsight it’s the best thing that could have happened. Sure, it cost me a lot of seniority and I don’t get as much vacation time as I used to, but I’m happy. I work at a service provider now that turns a profit and is constantly expanding. We get raises, promotions, and unlike WXN, experience is treated as something to be valued instead of something to be thrown away. Don’t be afraid to make a change because you’ve been there so long you'd rather cross your fingers versus starting over. Make that choice for yourself before they make it for you. :)
