Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

American workers should not suffer disproportionately

Wake up America!!! Regulations are long overdue. American oil and gas workers should not have to shoulder compensation, retirement or health benefit cuts disproportionately to our international colleagues due to not having unions or legal protections.

In fact, hourly workers and CL 26 and below should not have to take pay and benefit cuts BEFORE executives publicly announce salary and stock option cuts greater than or equitable to the cuts they are voting to enact on their US staff. It is disgraceful and greedy.

Dividends should NOT be paid when the employees compensation is being cut. PERIOD.

Whatever your political leaning, you should be angry .... you should contact your congressmen and women and you should demand basic employee rights similar to EU and other first world societies. The US is NOT leading, we are lagging. Capitalism is great, but not without some protections for the employees that build the products and services. Do not give 20, 30, even 40 years of service blindly trusting a corporation to do the right thing.

What is next? healthcare? PTO? Who else is tired of eating this sh– sandwich?

H1Bs and L1s get all the work done anyway. Now is the time to move aside for us.

I guess this is like a pay cut across the board.

I could get behind this easier if the company had not planned to pay the dividends even when other majors aren’t doing this. I have always felt blessed to work for them but this is a blow.

Executives have already taken cuts because restricted shares and bonus units have dropped in value. For most senior executives Restricted Stock (equity) and Earning bonus (cash) units represent 50 to 70% of pay. I expect Darren Woods compensation to be down 20 to 30% in 2020. This FACT will be reported for the top five executives in 2021.

Back in the day there was a group called "investor relations". Today that group has become the board. And that is what is wrong with so many American corporations. Shareholders over employees and customers. Guess who also rewards themselves with shares?
