Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

ExxonMobil pays dividends to shareholders at the expense of employees losing jobs and employee benefits being reduced

This company's management is unscrupulous (a serious understatement).

  1. EM employee benefits have been cut in the last few days.
  2. Using the excuse of poor performance, EM is cutting 8% of its worldwide staff just to avoid calling it retrenchment. People, please call this out and tell the world. EM wants to avoid being seen by prospective employees as a company that lays off employees - HR keeps insisting that its decisions are performance based, but the truth is, it is LAYOFFS! They want to be seen as the world greatest employer, which they are far from. They say that they offer lasting careers - BS! Come on, EM managers, just admit it - you don't give a toss about your employees.
  3. Just watch this space - EM will inform its employees that due to various economic conditions and a business outlook which is uncertain, there will be no annual increments (except for management staff - which they will not say out loud).
  4. Yet, they insist that shareholders must be paid a sizable dividend. Top management, you are shareholders. So are you robbing your employees so that you can fill your own pockets? Is this a perk of being a manager? Well done, you should be proud and walk with your heads up high because you are champs in screwing your employees over.

So, does it look anything like this company is serious about developing long lasting careers for employees?

Say what you want but regardless of company paying dividind or not, there was no reason for the company to hold on to the ones let go.

smells like panic by management to me

maybe the low level employees holding all this stock should get together and use those shares to vote for change

Say what they want, but the people put in the bottom 8% was NOT based on performance.... people were targeted.... how can you go from having all good reviews to all of sudden you are now a bad performer or you were good enough to be promoted 6 months ago, but now you are a poor performer.....management style is now a bully mentality and you are expected to do what they want even if it is wrong.... sad to see once was an awesome company to work for to become what it is today!!!

Shareholders are OWNERS of the company. Employees including management are merely "hired guns"...One step above a contractor

Its okay if exxon employess lose their jobs. Most of them are arrogant and engineers got high salaries anyways. Might as well see ordinary people making some income through dividends rather than employees.

Would you still like to see value returned to the shareholders if they cut the 401k match for all employees? No matter what their title or rank?

I'm a shareholder. I'd gladly like to see value returned to shareholders versus giving salary to low level performers.

Shareholders don’t care about low level employees. Except low level employees collectively are a big shareholders haha

They would care that this quarters dividend is being funded because no maint is being done on drilling rigs, refineries, chemical plants and due to the preference to pay dividends over maintenance of equipment. a horizon or Texas city type event is looming. If either of those happen now. Exxon stock will go to 30 dollars and be be stuck for 5 years.

With reduced time in field and a highly distracted team this accident is about 1-2 months out. So many plans were made during April/May. September/October we will get to see the errors and distractions.

Be safe out there folks. A big one is looming.

Public companies care about their shareholders. The people in the trenches are expendable. Management protects itself first and the shareholders second.
