There's a special place in hell for those who would go to a website to troll people who have been laid off from their jobs. HR? If you're so worried about what people are saying about the company, do better.

The people at the top are scum. End of story. VP and above couldn't care less if you're alive or dead. People who try hard and care with this company or any big company.... you're k–ling yourself and busting your a– for this job, that would replace you in 2 seconds if you dropped dead. Make sure you make yourself the priority. They dont really care no matter how much they pretend to.

Cox, you're kind of disgusting. Pulling this BS now of all times?
AlexTaylor: do you have any shame at all? Millions to BLM is great but many of those black lives are also employees in your companies. How about first focusing on the lives that your companies have just turned upside down. How can anyone take you seriously anymore when you pour your heart out in your videos/emails showing concern for your employees. Cox will never be "part of the solution" –they have no real visionaries.

Any idea how many affected this round? Tough way to live since it started regularly in 2017... it’s now part of the company every 6-12 months and everyone continually lives in a state of anxiety wondering when their time is coming.

For those who have criticized the ones who were "laid off" (and I'm one of the "laid off-almost 17 years): believe me, if you were "laid off" after 5-10-15-20+ years, you'd be disappointed as well. Life's full of disappointments. I believe what we're all trying to relay or say to varying degrees is that we all understand Cox isn't a charity, it's a global business. But, when you are shown the door with zero support–but we'll throw you a bone with benefits for 4 months on the federal money we're collecting & then "lay you off", yeah...it stings a bit! Instead of kicking people when they're down, why not be a part of the change? (Cricket sound...) Yeah, good luck standing up for what's right. I truly wish nothing but the best for my fellow "laid off" team members. And good luck to those still there... you're gonna need more than luck. Work on that side hustle when you're doing the job of 3 team members.

"I made myself available 24/7. There was zero time for a 'side hustle'. Took time away from my family to be a part of the Cox family. I was never 'dead weight' - I loved being at Cox and felt the feeling was mutual. It was all a huge waste of time."

My boss was honest with me yesterday. This was a result from digitalization, Covid just sped up the process. I know my contributions to the company were strong, and work ethic had nothing to do with my layoff. Don't listen to those here that are victim-blaming.

I know this site gets seen by lots of different Cox/Manheim team members. I feel compelled to respond to a couple comments. All the talk of 'dead weight', 'side hustle', 'typical corp', etc...

I did everything to 'Manage my Career' with Cox:
Completed Auction Academy
Graduated Executive Leadership Program
Volunteered personal time on Cox Conserves projects
Wrote glowing reviews of Cox on Glassdoor
Etc...

I made myself available 24/7. There was zero time for a 'side hustle'. Took time away from my family to be a part of the Cox family. I was never 'dead weight' - I loved being at Cox and felt the feeling was mutual. It was all a huge waste of time.

If you are still at Cox and reading this, trust me - none of that work will save you. But I wish you all good luck. Learn from me, don't get caught flat footed and buy in to the bs.

Anyone worried now that you've been laid off, and treated like garbage the last 4 months, try to not to get down. Trust me when I say you will be much much better off when this is over. This company is a disaster, and it's only a matter of time before another round to head chopping comes. It will don't worry. Even if you are able to retain a role some how, all its doing is delaying the inevitable outcome down the road. Could be 6 months, could be a year, could be 5. But dont worry it will come. Best advice, as someone who has already had this happen to them multiple times by cox, is take the severance if youre given one, and run, as fast as humanly possible. There are organizations that dont treat their people like this place. There are organizations where your anxiety and stress levels take years off your life. You are better off with out these people. Use the severance to start a business, if you can, or try something new. This life s—ing organization will only get worse, and only continue to cut, and consolidate. It will never end well, riding off in to the sunset with your cox pension the way you think it will.

Not sure about anyone else, but i've never trusted a single leader in this organization. They're all puppets. Slimy, lying puppets. Leadership and HRs only goal in all this is to not get sued. Which is why they eliminate positions, and lay off for "business needs" or whatever the flavor is this week. They'll never tell you the real reason. Someone earlier said to not take it personal.... HA! Every one of them is personal, personally hand chosen by what they dub as a "leader", hilarious these people couldn't lead this organization out of a box. None of them have a clue. If they did they'd be running their own business, and left long ago. They just shield the real reason (usually because you p-ss-d someone off, or they don't like you for whatever reason, or you cant hit your inflated fake goals) because if they gave you the real reason they'd be sued.

Post below mine: you hit the nail on the head! Exactly! I said that to several people today after my "layoff" call. COVID was the excuse, NOT THE REASON. We will all learn from this & move forward. We will trust less & be more tuned in so we don't get blind sided again. I knew weeks ago I wasn't coming back because I saw the handwriting on the wall. I'm done with big corps at the age of 53. Time for a more simple structure in my life. I wish everyone who was "laid off" the best & don't give up. Life experience can work in your favor in the long run.

Ya, HR & leaders made sure to tell me how difficult it was for them, and how much of a difficult time it was. I dont frankly care how hard it was for them, and these types of patronizing statements are disgusting, and beyond phoney. They still have jobs (for now) they still had paychecks the last 4 months. If you think COVID and lock downs is to blame for this you are smoking crack. If you dont think this was planned a long time ago youre dead wrong. COVID was the perfect storm for them to blame this on. They aren't hurting one bit. Hence the 1000.00 bonus they just handed everyone this week. Everyone except the people furloughed not coming back....

For those with pension plan in layoff, is it possible to negotiate to cash out some agreeable amount now instead of waiting till retirement for lump sum/annuity?

I also received a call from my manager. Tough conversation but luckily I have a very supportive manager. In the end, it's business. Knew it was coming since my area is pretty much still on lockdown. I know someone in HR at another company who has to conduct and process layoff meetings with employees. First time ever for her and she has to do tons... what a way to experience. Its physically and emotionally draining. It's tough and she knows once she's mostly done, the HR group will then be hit.... Kinda depressing times we are in... My fiance is one of 30000+ employees who might be laid off this fall at United airlines. Good luck to all.

I’ve been with Cox (Manheim) for nearly 30 years and got the lay-off call today. At least my manager called me and had a decent conversation. No robocall. I wasn’t surprised as I was furloughed the last 4 months, but who they’ve kept is a mystery. Some are so inept and have no work ethic - others are phenomenal. I understand they didn’t get to all people today. Probably tomorrow.

Took 5 minutes to end almost 17 years at Manheim today. 1 week per year of service as severance. It was 2 weeks for several years but all mention of severance is removed from the handbook now. Kicked us going out the door. I will miss the ones I could trust & many clients. I won't miss the toxic culture that has developed in the last couple years. Good luck to all who have been let go. Move on to bigger & better things!

Depending on role/ position severance is usually 1-4 weeks salary, senior level employees fall on the higher end. Executive office does not fall under this.
The person worked 19 years, am assuming severance was done at 2.75 weeks salary per year worked. Wishing him and all impacted all the best.

What was your negotiation strategy to get one year of severance? did you do it through email or phone? What did you tell them to make them give in

Almost 19 years with Manheim and Cox ended today. Just in time for my kids to go to college!

I will give them credit. They gave me 1 year severance pay and prorated bonus for 2020. I had to fight (beg) to get that - it wasn’t their first offer. Don’t be afraid to ask for fair compensation - clearly HR has flexibility.

Good luck all - on to the next challenge. Sometime next year.

Who sent the robocall? Was it corporate or someone from your location? That's really low.

I got one from my GM to expect a call later today. At least they're trying to keep it personal.

As someone who has been furloughed since May 17, I received the robo call, text & email today. You'd think they could "drive" this down to a local level & at least "fire" you from a personal standpoint & not do it via a robo call. Impersonal, inexcusable, despicable....after almost 17 years for me with Manheim. Yep, we are just a number....

Just keeping it real for those that may not know. Generally speaking the re-orgs "new" positions usually are the exact same as an "old" position, called something else. Usually filled or ear marked for someone already where their "old" job, fits the "new" job pretty closely. Some may even say identical. Sooo while they'll encourage you to apply (if you're not just kicked to the curb first) just know the vast majority of the new roles will be filled long before this was ever made public. there will be a few outliers here and there they didnt expect, but not many. if networking and relationships weren't built by now. Good chance its too late. Just tryin to keep it real for y'all

Post ID: @gvog+16h27UCk

Only problem is in these “re-orgs” the “new” positions are the same position with a different name, and they’ve mostly been filled already, the people just don’t know it yet. If you think you are applying for a “new” role open to anyone, you are, except the “new” role will be filled by someone who’s “old” role is almost identical and it’s already mapped out. With few exceptions and outliers who quit, that they didn’t plan on ect. Wish everyone good luck tomorrow. It’s going to be a bloodbath.

Yeah, you'll get a 30min meeting invite from your manager with relatively short notice for an update. If an HR rep comes on... I'm sorry. Best wishes on whatever happens, don't take it personal and believe you were specifically singled out because of performance. Connect with any and every Cox colleague on linkedin to network and get introductions to new job opportunities. If I don't know you but you're from Cox, I'll add you... And if anyone asks me for recommendations and referrals and endorsements, I'll do it no problems... Even if I dont know you lol.

Depending on the department, a call will be to tell you, you wont be returning from furlough, your position has been or will be eliminated soon. The only variable part will be if there will be a spot for you in the restructure or not, which you will have to apply for along with many people currently working, will also have to re-apply for new roles. Classy.

Thanks. I'm furloughed and my boss wants to schedule a phone meeting so I guess that's it.

I know they've been downsizing the more technical they get. They've been going after every department. COVID just sped it all up.

Yes, tomorrow is the day. They will announce more layoffs, as well as massive re-organizations of many different departments and teams. Good luck, there is a big chance you'll be impacted especially if still on furlough, however, even if youre not on furlough, youre far from safe, dont get comfortable. Only difference if youre not on furlough is, you've been paid the last 14 weeks, so consider yourself lucky to have been paid, vs. your peers that have been raked over the coals the last 3-4 months expecting to come back, just to be told youre not, and your job is going away. This, when they could have told you about 13 weeks ago this would be the outcome. This has been the plan for a long time. Dont kid yourself to think this had to due with COVID, and wasnt the plan long before COVID was ever a "thing"

“ I'll have been laid off from the same company twice and furloughed once all in the same year“

  • some people on this board will try to convince you that’s “normal, it’s just what companies do, get used to it, better have a side hustle, they don’t owe you anything, you should have been prepared and saw it coming”

Absolutely not what companies do. In no world is that ok. It’s the chaos cox Automotive has created. You’ll be better off with out them if you finally get asked to permanently leave. They owe people the ability to move on with out being in limbo. They owe people direction and communication to be able to make decisions for themselves and family. No, they aren’t a charity organization, but they certainly owe people closure, honesty and human decency. It’s absolute chaos.

I've already been through this once this year. My position was "centralized" and I received layoff notice. Applied for another job and got it. Then Covid happened and I've been home since March. If my layoff comes this month, I'll have been laid off from the same company twice and furloughed once all in the same year.

At this stage there’s only 3 options that will happen
1) you go back to work 9/7 after the full 16 weeks (your a lucky one, but not likely) there doesn’t seem to be more call backs happening before 8/28 which would return you on 9/7 end of furlough.
2) you get laid off before 9/7
3) or you’re part of the restructure, will have to re-apply for your job or another job, hopefully you get it. If you don’t get a new role, then refer to option 2, just delayed 2 weeks. (Although most of these spots are already earmarked for people and mapped out, so not much applying will do other then check a box so they can’t get sued)

With the lay-offs likely coming this week, you’ll know soon enough.

Yep, I know the handwriting is on the wall. I realized that weeks ago. I just want it over so I can move on. Just difficult to do so when you're truly in limbo. For almost 17 years I sang the praises of Manheim. Now all I feel is anger & bitterness because of how this all went down. Disappointing to be treated this way.

I feel for you. Unfortunately at this stage the resolution will most likely be your job will be eliminated. Small chance you’ll be brought back. Not trying to be negative. The chances of returning if still out on furlough are very slim, like 95% chance of lay-off. Theyll be restructuring, eliminating a lot of positions through out the entire company. So if you are brought back most likely it will be short lived, or brought back just to apply for a new role. Not just furloughed people are screwed though. A lot of people working right now will be impacted also. It’s just the furloughed people who are more screwed because haven’t been paid for 3.5 months to return just to be thrown into a huge re-org. My suggestion, try to apply for a new role. If you don’t get one, collect a severance, if they offer you one. And be happy you’re away from the chaos. But also be aware the new roles and who’s going to be in them and who isn’t is mostly already decided. Just my 2 cents.
