Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

North Platte shop safe?

Since Jenks shop isn't opening any time soon, is North Platte shop safe from layoffs. Just want to continue living life without worries. Want to buy a house if im sure I wont get laid off. I still have at least 30 guys under me, you think im high enough and safe from layoffs? Have been working OT as needed that way it proves we need the manpower. Heard our shop is in process bringing some back. Any usefull information someone can share would be great. Have safe day.

I had 41 guys under me and still got laid off last year. Was called back earlier this year along with a few others, but that's it and it doesn't seem like they're calling anyone else anytime soon. You either take a risk or you don't. 30 under you in North Platte is nothing. Just saying.....

But you are stupid enough to not understand simple contractions. Which is even more sad.

First, I wouldn't be stupid to even think about buying a house there . The town is dying, and its going nowhere.
North Platte is truly the BFE of Nebraska. So is Bailey Yards.
I sure wouldn't bank on UP for my family's wellbeing. But, if your truly a UP cheerleader, go ahead, buy that house and wait for the hammer to drop. Don't say you've been warned.

So are we all in North Platte still #1? I guess so. Thank us all for making it work. Work as team!

It’s not hate, but in fact reality. Our shop bent, broke, found a way around ,gave into, anything and everything they requested to survive, but were still shat upon and destroyed.

Why does this question keep being asked? The answer is and always will be the same. NO LOCATION IS SAFE! If there's a way to save money, then all locations are on the same corporate dart board.

Elon musk is coming out with electric self driving semi trucks that run 24/7. Rails roads are a thing of the past.

North Platte guys love to boast about no layoffs and huge seniority, but if they ever look into their criminal record the whole shop would be shut down.

If you have 30 roster spots under you, why are you even posting this stupid shiiit! Sounds like you are showboating to me! You should have bought a house years ago if you have 30 below you!

The best thing about north Platte is that hell of a director Mike cook. Such an assclown

You’ll be ok, just take all the tools home and sell them like North Platte guys do and you’ll be fine.

Ya, I think you are fine to buy a house. After all, you have shown your willingness to work with the company by taking overtime. I would think that 30+ guys under you would be enough to secure your job. Buyer's market, better jump on one before all the people move back to town when they start calling back!

Nobody's job is safe, especially the people who think their jobs are safe. Unemployment lines are full of people who though the same thing as the OP.
