Ford retirees with PPO 4000 insurance plan Re: Auto Insurance reform

Hopefully this will help some other retirees figure out the auto reform impact. As I was checking on potential savings from the recent auto insurance reform l was informed by BCBSM that our PPO 4000 plan, which is already costing some retirees $600+ more per month in 2020 over 2019, is not the ‘primary’ for auto accident injuries...meaning you have to make sure your auto policy is listed as ‘primary’ for auto accident injuries. Our auto insurance was listed as ‘secondary’, meaning not only will I not see any savings from the auto reform changes, but I will now see an increase in my auto insurance as I have to switch it to ‘primary’. My agent was very surprised that a Ford BCBS plan would not be primary as he says they usually are. Ford sticking it to retirees again.

No need to feel sorry for us. I have enjoyed 2 years of stress free life without work! Yeah - they are jerking us around now with medical costs but I would have still chosen to retire. The 9 month lump plus doing ZERO work for 6 months (plus getting one month of paid vacation) while on PRP was a gift!

I feel for you guys who took early retirement. It looked like a great deal but
who would have thought healthcaree insurance would be such a worry.

BCBS is the administrator of the plan for Ford Motor Company. That's where he insurance part of BCBS ends.

Ford self insures.

Agree - it was that way before I retired in 2018. AAA would always ask me who is considered primary - BCBS stated that they were not. Be happy you didn't need to use your insurance - that would have been a rude awakening!

Get ready for Ford to really jack up the retiree medical for 2021. My guess is $800 for family with high deductible plan.

Nothing stopping them from doing this right??
