FMLA and bullying - Great article to help for toxic environments

As someone who took a lot of bullying and harassment at Allstate, I found this article helpful in knowing HR employee relations better. There are many things I’ve heard Managers and Directors continuing to do that would have never happened over the past 18 months if they were not all trying to race to save their jobs through rankings and PDS. It’s like the crabs in a barrel analogy. Look at all 11 forms of bullying/harassment and reflect on if you have experienced any.

Remember if you are an employee contact HRCert if your bosses are bullying you/ colleagues or if you observe other colleagues getting destroyed. Many people are afraid to report anything and especially now because of retaliation.

Document the situations. Document. Document. Document.

If your an Agent and the Sales Management is bullying you contact HRPart. There is tough love and there is disrespect / harassment that no one deserves. We are all going through a pandemic and as an insurance company we should feel protected/safe just like we promise policy holders.
Don’t you love the tag line Be a Force for Good!

The Family Medical Leave Act can protect you to continue to get benefits and employment if needed if you don’t have anything lined up.

DO NOT go to local regional HR! Be sure to go to HRCert!

I’m not sure how this could impact your severance options however it’s an option to help you buy more time if you don’t have anything lined up.

https://i-sight.com/resources/11-types-of-workplace-harassment-and-how-to-stop-them/

Take care everyone of your family’s and self. Remember your at will and your experiences can take you to better places.

Also we are coming up on Fall final recruiting drives across other organizations recruiting years so start getting your name out there!

No offense to anyone who works there, I know you're just doing what you're told but HRCert is a joke. They are trained to belittle you and back you into corners. If you've ever been on a call with them, you know it's like an interrogation session. I'm surprised they don't make you go stick your finger into an electrical socket every time you don't give them the answer they want.

suspect Ive been faced with these but its so hard to prove. The fear for retaliation is there so its smart to just stay quiet and hope you wont lose your job. Thats why they do it. and they use your response behavior to justify further abuses with telling lies to discredit so nobody believes. Sometimes in advance. Cant forget playing innocent. Very sad. Still wont report this but know your not alone if going through similar.

#1 Discriminatory Harassment

  • Left out of activities or meetings, or
  • Unfairly criticized…

#2 Personal Harassment
Personal harassment is a form of workplace harassment that’s not based on one of the protected classes (such as race, gender or religion).
Simply, it’s bullying in its most basic form and it’s not illegal but can be damaging nevertheless.

  • Personal humiliation
  • Critical remarks
  • Ostracizing behaviors
  • Intimidation tactics

Or any other behavior that creates an intimidating and offensive work environment for the victim.

#4 Power Harassment
Power harassment is a common form of workplace harassment that’s characterized by a power disparity between the harasser and the harassed.
The harasser exercises their power by bullying a victim who is lower on the office hierarchy.
In many cases, the harasser is a supervisor or manager who victimizes their subordinates.

#5 Psychological Harassment

  • Isolating or denying the victim’s presence
  • Belittling or trivializing the victim’s thoughts
  • Discrediting or spreading rumors about the victim...

#7 Retaliation
Retaliation harassment is a subtle form of retaliation and an often-overlooked type of workplace harassment.
Retaliation harassment occurs when a person harasses someone else to get revenge and to prevent the victim from behaving in such a way again.

What Does Retaliation Harassment Look Like?
This type of harassment typically has three parts:

  1. Employee A files a complaint about Employee B.
  2. Employee B finds out about the complaint and who made it.
  3. Employee B harasses Employee A to get revenge and deter them from filing further complaints.

Employee B, in this case, would be harassing Employee A as reRetaliation harassment is a subtle form of retaliation and an often-overlooked type of workplace harassment.

HR Cert works directly with your local HR Manager the odds are against you (I know I work in CERT). Do your due diligence and document everything, even verbal communication with a follow up email. Once Allstate fails you and/or retaliation begins work with an employment attorney.

I trust no one in this company. Not CERT, not my leader, not my senior leaders, certainly not the directors and executives, and hardly any of my peers.
