Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

I got “Needs improvement”. What does that mean?

My 2016-2019 Year end review were “Meets”, with over 50%-80% of “Exceeds” in subcategories.

My 2-4 peers were Unmeet or Meets with 10-50% “Exceeds” every year. This time they were Meets or inconsistently Meets.

Does it make sense you that I was rated as Needs improvement this time?
Also what does this result mean to me? Thank you for your insights! I am so scared now!

ER complaints contesting your review will go no where unless you manager did something unethical that you can PROVE. The response from ER will be to "talk to your manager."

I’m sorry that’s awful. I’d file a rebuttal just for your sanity and pride through ER and I would actively look. I’m so sorry I’m a 2 And posted about being 6 months in. We are in the same boat only you have way more vested. Sorry

Whoah, you got a 1? Gotta hand it to you, you picked out one of the ends of the spectrum and went whole hog.

You may be doing the same work you've always done, but now your manager is being told to grade on a curve.

It's poor, lazy management.

Or you may need to improve. You should ask your manager what that means and not the internet.

I’m sorry, but in blunt terms it means you’ve been accepting compensation for work they’ve deemed to be inadequate. You will need to take stock of your situation, including your appetite for risk, and decide whether the situation is salvageable or you should maneuver ASAP into another job before the economy gets worse.

I believe that is a rating of "1", which is the worst.

It means start looking for a new job outside of Wells Fargo. It means you can talk to your manager who's going to lie to your face and say you have to work harder, but don’t be surprised when you get the same rating again in 4 months or less. Start working on your resume tonight! It might take a month or two but do it because if you lose your job you might be able to find one more quickly than everyone else who gets let go next round. If you aren’t let go you should still look as you know your employer is only looking out for themselves.

If you’re rated an Improvement Needed it means you’re a bottom 5% performer on your team and that you either are currently on a PIP or are at risk of being on one very soon.

Thinking about your rating in comparison to what your teammates were rated is the wrong way to go about it. You need to compare your performance and measure it against the performance objectives... not against your friends.

Going from a meets (With dome exceeds) to an improvement needed is a drastic jump. I hope the manager indicated your performance was falling off track before doing these ratings. Otherwise, that’s just horrible leadership.

Charlie Scharf has hired 10-12 of his EVP friends. In order to offset the added expense, he needs to layoff many employees. The easiest and cheapest way to do so, is to rate 50-60,000 employees as 1-2. No severance no nothing.

Start applying elsewhere. Quick.

It means you need improvement!

It means that you need to have a serious conversation with your manager. As Charlie has stated, we need to have candid conversations. So, have one with your manager. If your manager can't tell you specifically what you need to improve on, then contact employee relations. They won't help you, but at least you will have some documentation.

Like everyone else at WF (except for Charlies' Merry Band of Melon Heads), you should get your resume together, and start looking – if for no other reason than to know what is out there and what other companies are looking for.

Ironically, this is the very same advice I would give if you were rated a 4 (Exceeds). Only you can control your career. So, control it...

I am so sorry to hear this. Anything below a 3 (1s and 2s) means you are at risk of being PIPped. That leads to termination and, in WF's current rank and yank environment, it will likely include aggressive, relentless documentation of you to terminate you.

Despite what others say, unless you could get your manager to adjust your rating (upward), you are likely on the chopping block.

It means you need to get it together, kiss the donkeys more, ask how high and on what leg you need to jump, and spend more time asking your boss what you need to do to be more than average at what you do and less time asking for feedback on this board. You are prob part of the GIM Team, and a 2 rating is generous.
