Who gets the final say?

Do we know who gets the final say when it comes to choosing who to lay off? Considering the type of people who usually end up being cut (older, higher earners,) it seems like it's not the direct managers who make these determinations but somebody higher up who focuses strictly on numbers. Am I right?

You can get a fantastic review, be at an exceeds level, but have poor quality work and still make the cut.

This entire process is such a stinking pile of hit garbage.

The formula is 65% of your overall PDS you received in your current role (it is weighted 75% 2019 and 25% 2018), then 30% is the assessment and 5% is your tenure.

The data is being compiled by a third party and then the employees in the same group are listed from top to bottom, they will count down how many spots they make and draw a line. If you are above your are safe, if you are below you are out.

There are several managers who are not happy with this process as they are afraid some really good employees with not answer the assessment the way the company wants and then be stuck with people they would rather see be sent home.

This process shields the company pretty good and that is what they wanted.

If that’s the case my sociopath manager, that slept their way to the top, then moved into the gated community with those they slept with and subsequently picked up a new baby daddy, isn’t going to fight for anyone then those that don’t know her dirty secrets. Yup this really happened.

When I was part of the RIF process in the past during the great architect exodus (Zitney era) they out us all through training and went through heavy rounds of rating people.

There was a number that each VP offers up to cut while still estimating that they can still do the job. Once that number was set they turned to the Directors to get the names. Managers go into a room with their list of people and devate who from their team stays and who goes.

If you are on a team with a lot of high performers then you may get an unfair shake but they will try and get you placed in another group (depends on your manager of course).

It's not a great process and you are really relying on your management to fight for you. A lot of them tend to go with the room...it was not common that folks would push back very hard. Banality of evil

It comes down to being a name on a piece of paper, we are all pawns in the money game. The guy that works 60 hours a week vs. the guy that works 20 are viewed the same on that piece of paper. I know I was the guy who worked 60 hours for 13 years. No assessment, do not pass go and collect your severance.

If with claims the ones with better reviews get the free ride, what calculation are they going to use for those that take the assessment ? Will it be 95% assessment, 5% tenure?
