Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Dell Lays Off 10,000 Employees - This is Massive!!!

6% Global reduction and all coming down over the next 4 weeks. About 10,000 people by the looks of it? Waiting for the internal announcement but it had to come. Good luck to all with 1:1's booked like me...

I think the 10k is true. Definitely if one is to look at the whole year. Consistent layoffs each quarter. Part of it was planned as the company was still in the final stages of merging and then Covid hit, making it worse. I do think Dell is taking advantage of the Covid situation a bit. I got the notice today and am somewhat relieved as I was feeling more and more disappointed from the weight of politics I was feeling. Lots of fluff and “conversations” about race etc, which I’m not totally against but I definitely felt like the fluff of all the pretty talk and passionate speeches were ego driven, empty, and ultimately an attempted distraction from all the axes slamming down on people.

first, this is not true. 2nd, 10k out of quarter a mil? that is a small % from that perspective, just 4%. plus many of you are redundant paper pushers, email unresponsive pos anyway.

Here comes the bad news. For the poor shmucks that are staying sales targets are being rolled out larger than last years and as if Corona didnt happen. No one will get paid for years and it's a one way trip down pip street.

No, they do not take age into perspective. You can bet your management team does though and they want you out. Karma is a b–ch and it will catch up to all of these sales management AS###h&&&&es

You say whatever the F**** you want, I was layed off a couple of months ago and this was a planned initiative. My manager and his manager did not like the fact that I told it like it was. They wanted everyone to sugarcoat everything. In retrospect I made a major mistake coming to this company there were red flags from the get go. My only thought is that karma is a b–ch and it will come back, it always does in time.

this is an anon board and people speculate. anything can be posted, the fact it shows up here and someone 'thinks' or 'feels' that this or that will happen does not make it a fact.

and yet, we live in the world of 'alternative facts' - there are multiple truths, people act based on their gut and not on science and facts... we are all at fault and we all deserve this.

nothing can be trusted any more

Dell execs can easily stop rumors by simply outlining what the plan is.

Unless they do that, the rumor mill will continue to run. I remember even before we had Facebook and Social Media, in-office rumors would run wild, 5K, 10K, you name it...

So, the way to counteract rumors is to be transparent and our execs always fail in that area.

I'm confused..is it done now or is it going on for another 3 or 4 weeks? We didn't see 10,000 people let go this week and so far, it seems just sales related..at least from the published articles.

@ltf - No you do not have to wait for severance to run out, besides how would the unemployment office know when that is? Someone might make theirs last for months/years while someone else might blow it in a week in Vegas ;-) I just had to wait until after the first full week of being unemployed before I could file for unemployment. Also as part of your severance agreement if you want the money you have to sign on the dotted line, which is a release of claims. Because of this, in Massachusetts it is not considered remuneration and therefore does not reduce your unemployment benefits or duration. Here is the response I received from unemployment after telling them the amount of my severance (which you have to do):
"The payment the claimant received was issued in exchange for a release of claims and is therefore, not remuneration." Not sure if this is different in another state though?

someone just notified supposedly was informed by their manager that it was company wide, and was a 6% reduction...which equates to around 10k people. Doesn't make it legit, just relaying that it was supposedly directly told to someone.

Why are comments from other threads showing up as new posts? An anonymous person speculating a number like 10,000 does not make it true, and we haven't seen anything to indicate that the company plans to lay off that many people. I get that this is a forum for rumors and speculation, but why are we taking certain comments and amplifying them like this? It's sensationalistic and panic-inducing.

Do you have to wait for the severance to run out before you apply for benefits?

@uoq - I got laid off Apr. 3 and was told in my meeting with my manager and HR that it was not related to COVID. Perhaps this is something they say for legal reasons - who knows? Anyway it did not affect my unemployment benefits whatsoever. I am in Massachusetts and when filing, the state unemployment system asks if the layoff was from COVID and I selected 'No' since that is what Dell said. I still received full state benefits plus the extra $600 per week at the time, which has since expired as a few days ago. Hopefully some form of extra benefits get extended again - politicians arguing about it now!

If you get laid off, does the fact that Dell says it is unrelated to COVID, impact unemployment benefits?

Yes - this is for real. It's happened and is still happening....and no one is immune. Many of us got the call on Weds. Dell does this on the DL– in dribs and drabs to avoid negative press.

What's your source? Something that big would need to be announced to US Dept of Labor, right?
