Jerry was once asked his biggest concern as CEO of Allstate. His reply was that he feels the pressure of his decisions because they affect the livelihoods of tens of thousands of hard working employees. He said it keeps him up at night...
Allstate was publicly traded at the time and that right there is the difference between then and now.
He came up through the ranks at Allstate and cared about the folks...The 401 K with 1.50 potential,
The DPA awards all happened on his watch.
Allstate is now a company led by hubris and greed.
“Managers” who will keep employees uninformed
And stressed to reach their purpose....
“Leadership” does not need to be like this. Just look at the history of Allstate prior to this current CEO and senior team...

Once Tommy retires, guess who’s next in line to be CEO!!!
I remember Jerry from those days. He would fly out to the offices sometimes in the corporate jet. One time he came out and one of the reps expressed concern about the CCPR process and what it was doing. He genuinely listened and asked that person to write it d own and give him info to take back. The problem was that already underneath Jerry the ranks were being formed with corporate process and money people.
The transition to Liddy from Choate is where it all started going downhill. To be fair, I think it started a bit under Jerry but he genuinely cared about the folks in the field. Liddy and Wilson, not so much. Tom is an unmitigated disaster from a personnel standpoint. A once great company trashed by the people up the line all the way to the top.
I remember when Jerry used to come down from his office and join people in the cafeteria who he didn’t know. He had a passion for Allstate employees.
It can’t all be blamed on Allstate being public. It all senior staffs are in it for themselves. The Wilson era has been one take away after another since he took over the reins...His decision on the pension cost the average employee hundreds of thousands of dollars...
Capping income potential even for the highest performers while demanding the employee to work 11-12 hour days.....
Don’t bet that these layoffs will end it.... likely the pension, medical insurance will be ended or more layoffs coming after the formal
Merger....
People are not angry about the layoffs per se...there has been simmering anger at every Wilson decision and take away for over a decade..
The way these
Layoffs were handled is just the cherry on the cupcake slap in the face.
