Thread regarding Ford layoffs

New Job postings

Does anyone think that new postings are created so that the successful applicant will be the first to go if there is another round of SRD? I am wondering if management would choose to protect current employees by hiring a new person for a position that is destined to be cut to meet a target.

The more likely scenario is they would eliminate an open position to meet SRD goal.

As SRD showed, there is no discernable reasoning behind the choices.

It’s hard to speculate about open positions and layoffs. I have seen open positions eliminated and counted as head count reductions but I have also seen people hired while people qualified for those positions were let go. There were people eliminated in SRD who were more than qualified for open posted positions that were later filled by less qualified people. It likely depends on the goals of the layoff. Are they trying to simply reduce head count; reduce future pension commitments; eliminate under performers; reduce salary costs by replacing experienced higher earners with entry level employees? There seems to be hidden agendas when layoffs occur and who knows what the agenda might be IF another round comes to pass. Hopefully it won’t happen because Ford needs to focus on quality products that consumers actually want and can afford to buy. Companies rarely cut their way to excellence and layoffs would be a yet another distraction.
