Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Morale

I would venture to say that morale is probably at a all time low. Now that's my speculation as you see that Windstream's head is spinning and they really don't know what direction to turn to. My speculation is that upper Management is ready to bail with money in their pocket. Now that is only my speculation, but 28 years with them, I have seen alot.

We don't need a disgruntled former employee script kiddy to wreck this network. We do a pretty good job of it daily during normal daily operations....

"To the guy who mentioned writing scripts to delete stuff from the system. You may want to reevaluate your decision. The last person who did that is still sitting in a prison cell. Don't believe me? Ask some of the people who were around in the Alltel days and they will know about it. "

Maybe at Alltel but about 3 years ago we had someone delete a bunch of stuff on his way out the door. We tried to prosecute but the logs IT Security kept were so bad we got no traction.

Ehhhh.....between the way TT avoided criminal charges while the Judge assisted the 'can't deny their involvement' executives with endless bonuses all while rioters are coddled as protesters........who really believes in US Laws anymore!!!!

That ship has sailed. I guess you could say the rule of law went down the DRAIN

"All I know is when I get in tomorrow, I'm working on my scripts to start deleting configs when my AD stops authenticating."
"Get the picture????"
"Then I'm probably going to upload all of my passwords and my node list to pastebin."

I understand you hate your job. We don't care for Windstream, either - 100s of people at work lost internet access for a few hours today and it crippled our business. This is happening more and more in our ILEC town.

But breaking the law and harming a lot of innocent customers is sick.

I really hope you're just blowing off steam but if you're not, well then I hope your cellmate turns out to be a whole lot bigger than you.

U.S. Code Title 18.… CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE … Part I. CRIMES … Chapter 65. MALICIOUS MISCHIEF … Section 1362. Communication lines, stations or systems:
"Whoever willfully or maliciously injures or destroys any of the works, property, or material of any radio, telegraph, telephone or cable, line, station, or system, or other means of communication, operated or controlled by the United States, or used or intended to be used for military or civil defense functions of the United States, whether constructed or in process of construction, or willfully or maliciously interferes in any way with the working or use of any such line, or system, or willfully or maliciously obstructs, hinders, or delays the transmission of any communication over any such line, or system, or attempts or conspires to do such an act, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both."

With the COVID-19 epidemic, you might get to serve the first few months at home with an ankle monitor. After that, you're off to the big house.

Causing and intentional outage is disgusting no matter how angry you are at the company or TT. Think of the people and businesses you’re affecting and the damage you could do by knocking someone’s service out including a potential 911 call. What kind of low life would do something like that? You seriously need to just leave now if that’s the kind of thing you’re thinking about doing.

Agreed. Causing an outage isnt a good idea. Good way to end your career in telecom at the very least. And I doubt you get much respect in prison for such a crime hahaha

This place does not value people and the knowledge they bring. Basically if they could outsource everything, or replace their employees with sweat shop workers they would. You are an employee number to this company, a commodity. This career path planning with HR is an absolute joke. This place offers no careers. Just lay offs that allow others not being SME then to pick up your “career”. Then it’s always a pleasure dealing with these rookies that act like know it alls when they know nothing. The funny thing is, saying you work at Windstream and having a big ego becomes a laughable. It’s equivalent of working for Mcdonalds and calling yourself a chef. More and more people that are here inherited someone’s long years of skilled work, with a blink of a lay-off eye.

Screw that nerd that said its not a prison and to leave... That's the same thing TT said after talking about his waltz through the French Alps. You're missing the bigger picture plebian.

I don’t know anyone here who still believes they work for a real company selling real products and services. Sure, they play the game and talk the talk. But they don’t believe it any more than they believe they own a real life hotel when they play Monopoly.

So I found another job and I started on Monday. I have been emailing and calling my manager for 3 weeks to put in my resignation and he is completely MIA. So I am collecting 2 checks at the time being. Hoping for a severance hahahaha. No work at all right now to do at Windstream except disconnects. I will knock them out from my couch at night. Lets see how long I can ride this out!

Oh, you're gonna love this surprise Mr. T. Keep letting people go.

More people are going to wake up and stop thinking that they are lifers if they just kiss the right a$$.

Every month this place sets a new low for morale. And just when it cant get any lower they have another layoff so your workload doubles and no raise to speak of at anytime in the future. But the LR5 raked in MILLIONS in bonuses while never showing up to work.
