Thread regarding CenturyLink layoffs

THE END IS HERE

All the contractors are training to do fiber optic Installs and maintenance. Contracting companies told to hire more and more techs because they plan on laying off the majority of CTL outside technician work force by the end of the year. I’d be surprised if we don’t get our 90 notice for ISSP in the next two weeks. Their tactic was simple: separate the good profitable part of the business from the c-ap, rename the good stuff Lumen, and watch the union and CTL fade out. Now contractors can do all fiber installs and maintenance at a reduced cost and they don’t fall under any union contract obligations because it not the same company.

The pandemic and the increase in internet demand afterward saved the Union jobs because the company, like the rest of the world wasn’t expecting it. So they canceled the ISSP, worked us to the max with out regard for our health safety, and came up with a new strategy which will get them to their end goal quicker.

Typical corporate greed at its finest. All we can do is polish up the resumes and hope karma acts swiftly.

There actually was a pretty big increase in internet usage. People who worked on offices on private networks were now using their home internet for wfh access. Students who were in classrooms are now either using home internet for class, downloading and playing more games, or binge watching Netflix.

I was a CO Tech with a National Field Tech title. I made just short of $35hr when i asked for VSPP. Then, Telamon calls and the guy offers me $25hr and $100 a week out of your pay for health benefits. Oh yeah, sign me up for that.
He couldn't belive I was turning him down. He was a decent guy, so I explained things. He got real quiet.
After, he says, well it doesn't sound like I am going to be able to re-hire any of You? I said, well, we made $10 more an hour than you are willing to pay and we hated it. What do you think? He told me he had a list from CTL of people who voluntarily left that were not low performers. I don't see anyone going back personally.

Contractors have actually been doing fiber installs for quite awhile now. This is nothing new. The end is not here...yet. Unfortunately however our customers may disagree with that statement regarding our service quality.

Well good luck once the contractors start. I have had two phone interviews for a contractor CO tech job this week. One wants to pay $25hr another $27-30. Good luck getting people to work for that.

They will have to wait 2 years to use contractors in represented areas if they they do a IVSP per contract at least in CWA areas.
