Applied for a New Position

I just got a lateral transfer after being with Anthem for a number of years in the same role. I just applied for a new position at a higher grade. Do you believe my present Manager will be mad at me if I am granted an interview for the position I applied for? I am getting really frustrated as I always got good reviews but no promotion and it would be difficult to start a new year with no hopes of upward mobility. I am looking for positions both internally and externally.

I was an employee for 5 years, in the same position & in the same department, I asked several times about a promotion, was always denied for one reason or another. On a call to my manager I asked again about being promoted & suggested for me to start looking internally & externally, I did but heard nothing. I received my RIF call, updated my applications internally with my RIF date & started getting video interviews requests but nothing so my time came to leave. The internal hoops are ridiculous & a bunch of bull. I initially wanted to stay with Anthem but I've changed my mind & I won't recommend Anthem to anyone, they don't care about who works for them in the US. I was never written up, never reprimanded & have only had a total of 2 UTO's at a time & this is how Anthem treats a dedicated worker! Screw them!

@ New position poster. I agree with the former Anthem employee just hang in there for a year. Heres some background. I've been with the company for 30+ years. I interviewed with 3 people 20 years younger, new to the company less than a year. Made as Directors from outside, so their knowledge base wasnt as strong as mine. needless to say I didn't get those jobs . I also got bypassed on other jobs where contractors were hired as the assicioate( more bang for Anthems buck) its rough at Anthem to get jobs, so dont take it personally. And ask your current manager if you can work on a performance plan to get you to the next level. Best of luck

I’m a former employee not current. If you haven’t been in this new position for at least one year, you aren’t eligible to apply for other positions without a release from your current manager.

Realize your current mgr chose you over other candidates, and would be starting all over again with perhaps just a few months of you joining the team. If it were me I’d wait until one year to apply. But then again, my position was eliminated last July.
I was fortunate to gain a new job - great environment and people. It’s nonprofit and slightly lower pay plus no bonus. But am living it. Good luck!

If they get mad at you, it means you should definitely start looking elsewhere. A good manager (a good person for that matter) would want you to grow. Go for it!
