I was told first thing this morning that my position was eliminated. HR person sounded like they were reading from a script and plugged in what #s were relevant to me. Allegedly the box to send my laptop back won’t arrive for awhile. Why would I want to hold on to a laptop when Friday is my last day? Why wouldn’t the company want the laptop back ASAP? Friggin nuts.
They do read from a script, because legally they must be VERY careful what is said. why they keep them short, why they have HR on the line.
When I was working remotely, I was told that a vendor would ship boxes a week later to put your laptop, monitor, keyboards. So basically, I still had my laptop for a week after my last day.
you're still reading dell layoff news 6 years later.
Correct I was laid off by Dell back in 2014 and it was titled as a 1x1 with my manager, and him and HR rep were present. Explained in first sentence I was going to be laid off, would get a severance, and had to give back laptop and badge and leave bldg immediately. Any questions? It is typically a complete blindside. What’ll be interesting is how they will get their equipment back with everyone working remotely
The meeting is typically the one on one that you have with your manager. Mine was rescheduled for Thursday to Wednesday and the time was shoved way earlier than what it normally was. I can say for a fact, that the layoffs earlier this year were decided in either December of last year or January. One could see the differences on who mgmt was acting towards certain folks. And those who were treated differently earlier were let go. Management is not going to let you know by providing something that gives away the fact that the meeting you're going to, is to announce such. They will blindside you completely.
“What’s the meeting called?”
Back in July, mine was “Business Planning” - a perennial favorite!
It’s a mechanical call. Reading off a script. Manager and an unknown person on the the call, who turns out to be a HR person. The HR person does all of the talking. Takes 10 minutes or less with questions from your end.
It's usually titled 1 on 1 meeting. No description so you will be wondering what it is.
Is there a standard subject of the zoom meeting given?
Correct.
Told by someone affected that youll get a Zoom meeting invite and when you join, your manager will be there, possibly their manager and an unknown number which will end up being an HR person.
Your manager will explain briefly the reason for the call and HR will go over your severance package. Thats about it in a nutshell
