Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Dispatchers scheduled 6 days

Talked to a few dispatchers that didn't get let go & they said they are scheduled for 6 day work weeks now. Both said they are aware of at least 5 that have left on their own since reductions were announced.

@twp you could always go back home to your moms basement and feel sorry for yourself! Or you could start networking and if your worth a Sh>|t you could just find another JOB. Look if you were good enough for this company you are probably a pretty smart person who stands out from the crowd, so get with it and get it done. Reinvent yourself, move, continued education, Or just give up. It’s up to you but just remember you live in the greatest country on earth so anything is possible!

@twp Skills learned at UP generally aren’t transferable to any company except for another large freight railroad. One reason that long-time UP employees aren’t landing offerers is because nobody knows where/how to use their skills.

I’ve been told that a lot of X-UP employees come across as burnt-out and disgruntled during interviews, and frequently drop acronyms that nobody knows or cares about. The OMTs who stay for a year or two then leave seem to have the best luck finding new jobs.

Drank the kool aid? I was cut 18 months ago with the same degree and the same roles as the recent casualties. I can't even find a job, let alone one that would compensate me near what I made at UP. You're going to fire back some stupid response about "not looking hard enough," not smart enough," or whatever else you can think of. The recent cuts are all very good friends of mine so I pray they all find something better.

I don't envy the environment the remaining dispatchers or corridor managers are left with or the additional workload. The majority of them do have college degrees and impressive backgrounds. That said, unless you're willing to relocate , you will be hard pressed to find an alternative job with similar compensation in Omaha. You can find them if you look hard enough or you have prior technical skills/experience/knowledge obtained elsewhere. Can keep head down, do your eight hours, collect checks and deal with the toxicity. Or you can swap comp in exchange for a normal life and a healthier work environment.

Most folks with college degrees don’t have to put up with this company’s nonsense. Many of my colleagues are resigning and or are actively looking for other job opportunities. This company is like the middle aged man that still thinks he’s cool when everyone else thinks he’s a tool.
