Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

Safer to stay at Noble

Anyone else here waiting for the merger to complete before deciding on what to do with their own careers? There are a lot of things that could be improved upon, such as management's understanding of the day to day operations, company culture, and pay raises. This could be a much better place to work if some of the key issues were resolved.

Not to mention, with the economy being hit by a pandemic, it’s still a job that pays the bills and I would think it’s safer to stay put.

I'm just trying to determine if I'll make it into CVX as someone who is currently still furloughed.

If I get laid off prior to closing on CVX, I would receive the NBL package. I've heard differing things what that would involve. Additiionally, I have not yet completed 3 years at NBL. If I left, I would get zero of the long term 401(k) contribution, which at my years in the industry, is significant (I'm not referring to the annual match that vests 1/3 each year).

If I get laid off after closing to CVX, I would receive the CVX package, whatever that might be (I've heard differing things). Or better, I get reactivated by CVX and pay/benefits are started up again.

I may have an opportunity to take another position (no offer has been made yet). If an offer is made, and my status is still in limbo, then I will be in a very tough position to make a choice to accept the offer and move on, or stick around for whatever package is offered or be reactivated by CVX.

The best I can hope for is receiving the best package offered for layoff, then receive an immediate offer to move on with another company. Timing is everything, and I don't know if I will have that luxury.......

Thinking Noble's inept management will ever get a clue is laughable. This includes middle management and many of the lower level managers. The reason the company is defunct is because of these very managers, their lack of awareness and their massive ego's and/or inability to stand up for their employees. Noble needs to go away.

Noble is top heavy from the middle up. Nobles only value is it's assets and the personnel staffing those assets, which by the way are not even staffed by Noble employees in most cases.

Do you really think CVX needs another mid level blah blah blah manager for the blah blah blah department? No, they have enough excess fat of their own which is why they were already undergoing their own re-org before this.

Unless you hold a highly technical/specialized position that is DIRECTLY involved in pulling hydrocarbons out of the ground and into Nobles pipes I recommend you face reality and brush up on your resume. We are ALL very expendable.

There are a lot of web-bot non-human posts on the internet that solicit information or try to steer the conversation. It looks like it will only get worse in the future. Beware.

On what planet would you make a decision before? Why not wait and see what it looks like? This is a suspicious post

In case you have not figured it out yet, accepting a job at Noble was a bad career choice. Time to face reality and move on.

I agree with the last poster who said Noble is going away and that there have been no improvements in 8 years. The CEOs have been positioning Noble for a buyout for at least the last 5-6 years! There has been restructuring and layoffs every 18 months since 2013! The writing has been on the wall for years. There’s no future with Noble. You’re future is with Chevron at this point IF your position isn’t redundant to something Chevron already has.

What kind of question is this? Noble is going away, there will be no improvement. Every year we filled out the survey and they promised improvements. In my 8 years here, I never saw a single improvement. Better to stay?!? There is no staying at Noble!! But why would you leave before landing another job or severance?
