Thread regarding SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. layoffs

2020 lay offs were inevitable

You do realize there were layoffs coming in 2020 regardless, right?

Remember when everyone was PO'ed last year when the vacation rules changed?

The vacation policies weren't changed to make things easier, but instead changed t minimize the PTO pay out in California (CA state law requires it). They reduced max PTO time for hourlies. They took away salaried PTO and then said "it's unlimited PTO with manager's approval" – which actually means there's nothing in the books for the salaried employees. NO PTO payouts for you salaried CA folks. To my knowledge, layoffs haven't hit CA yet, but they are coming.

Covid just gave them the excuse that they needed to make it wider and far reaching.

Salaried and FT positions are being wiped out and replaced by seasonal or PT positions. Some positions have had their titles and job descriptions altered slightly to give the appearance of being 'new', but they will pay less than you were making with low to no benefits.

This was an easy way for them to remove dedicated tenured employees who over the years who received raises during their many years of service.

Move on people. SeaWorld doesn't give a sh– about you or the talent pool they are losing. They will limp along until they are able to file for bankruptcy.

Dive Ops, Horticulture and Entertainment to be contracted out. Horticulture was contracted out to a Nationwide Firm from Virginia, Dive Ops contracted out to a firm from Louisiana, and entertainment contracted out to a firm in Georgia. If you work in these departments, bye bye.

Games has already been outsourced. Next on the list will be photo, vending, airport stores, and parts of culinary. whatever they can do to change the bottom line regardless of who it effects.

I really loved working for SeaWorld, along with the people in Corp IT, but just the volatility of the organization was writing on the wall that the ship was sinking. I heard stories that years ago the company was awesome to work at. So sad....

Prior comments were not so much of a"told you so" but a warning to the apparent multitude of people still inquiring about reapplying for positions. We have offered our insight about the negativity brought about by the company. It is hoped that the guidance and validity of our previous warnings will not go unheeded. I hate to think people will continue falling for the same mistakes. It appears that some of those that were let go are having the same issues presented in a break-up; they focus on the good times and downplay all the troubles that should have been obvious red flags. Feel free to inject your sarcastic comments, but if what I said offers a wake up slap-in-the-face to those aforementioned about believing in themselves and attaining better things than what SW offers, then pointing out that we said it before and we will say it again has the potential to do far more good than harm.

They will do the same as they did to Corp IT. Bring in a company (Glotech) for "staff agumentation" then start getting rid of people. Go and try to find a listing for a SeaWorld IT position. Do not think there is a single IT leader that wants to be there anymore. Most jumped ship since it was easy for them to find jobs

I walked out 2 years ago from a full time position. Best move I ever made. Over the years, the line level have been treated like c-ap. The motto was less than perfect is acceptable. The company deserves to be sold off.....Employees, find other jobs, change your career path in life, try something you never thought you would do. Just prepare to get out. You will NOT be dissapointed in the long rung. You WILL be ok in the future... you do not have a future there regardless how much you love the animals.

I tried to warn people about these things on here before the layoffs. It was surprising that a few disillusioned people were so adamant about still wanting to have their positions back that they argued my point. I hope it is sinking in to everyone, now that the layoffs solidified, that my remark was valid that the company doesn't care and they are better off elsewhere. Additionally, the idea of unions is too late in the game. Anyone still working there will just keep being bled dry until everything is washed up. Let SR go down with his ship and find a better path.
