Thread regarding Pratt and Whitney layoffs

FYI No one knows what is happening

There’s rumors but it’s a confirmed 15-20% cut. Your managers don’t know and their bosses don’t know either what will happen. There will be cuts everywhere

Where do you see VSP being open to anyone?

A layoff needs to meet federal employment law balance for representation by protected class. There are 7 protected classes: race;color; religion; s-x includes m/f orientation gender identity ; national origin; ago ( above 40 / below 40) and disability. It’s a titer-toter with 7 balance points and the law allows over and under percentage variance by a quarter, so a 10 percent bucket of personnel by the letter of the law should account for 10 of those laid off however it could be 7 to 13 percent and still be within the spirit of the law.

There is horse trading involved to get to the final list.

VSP was completed as of July 31

The official word is 15-20% across the board, I posted 20% weeks ago only to be ridiculed by some people.

I see that the HR system will be down 17-21 Sept. Ess, gateway, ESP etc. Maybe coincidence

Where is the source for VSPs being offered to everyone regardless of age/service? It would weed out employees who will eventually leave the company and save jobs for loyal employees

If leadership was transparent there would not be a need for any of this. Getting layedoff is a pretty big deal and we know it is comming so of course we are all trying to figure out what is going on. Frankly I think it is rediculs that they feel the need to hide it and let you go on same day. We all are aviation professionals we have been keeping people safe in the air our whole lives. Frankly it is insulting

Can we have a source on that? Layoffs were supposed to begin this week and extend into October. I have a meeting with CE VPs later tomorrow so I wonder if this is a topic

Interesting update: VSP's are now being offered to ANYONE who want to retire "early" and receive the severance package. No age restrictions, no time of service restrictions.

This is definitely the case - middle management is being put in the unenviable position of having to buffer upper management against layoff questions without actually knowing the details
