Its rewarding to f— this company over every month
They really are a very stupid bunch of worthless vanilla
HR are especially inept and just pass messages back and forward
You could train a r—d to do that

I am not very busy and have not been working hard ever since WFH and before. It is a shame that people don’t think much for their co-workers and would work all day.
I think Oxy needs to try their best to keep and reward the bad apples because just a few of us want the company to succeed for the good of our co-workers and stockholders (Warren and Carl). It is an incredible gesture by VH to pay money to pay the OP, so hopefully Oxy will figure out a way of doing nothing with these employees. Even if you have a bad situation there are tens of millions of people laid off in this pandemic, and many would take your job probably for less pay but not if they knew the truth about what a loathsome company Oxy really is. Those people would rather to continue to receive their unemployment checks and food stamps as normal
Those rock-lickers are so annoying. Can they ever just give a straight answer? Ugh
The whole geoscience function doesn’t add any value. Any monkey can do their work. Time to get rid of them all and just keep us engineers to do the real work.
HR dont add any value
They are slow and inept
They just do what they are told like a bunch of robots
Clear them out and put a big kahuna in at the top
Oxy core values are a joke.
HR people with international experience need to be retained at Oxy. This is a skill that you cannot just buy off the streets and is necessary for future international expansion.
I wouldn’t say the entire HR department as there are many hard workers under that HR umbrella (data, comp, a few benefits people, etc) but definitely need some cleaning up in other areas of HR, including in the BU’s. As you said, start at the top and work downward...the top is Hawaiian shirt guy and the guy right below him. Out with the old, in with the new!!! Quit promoting management from within and bring in someone with fresh perspectives and knowledge.
If you get rid of this function who would renew the contract for the sign at the ballpark?
The whole HR function at Oxy is incompetent. It needs a major clean out and start over - from the top to the bottom of the org chart.
Me sir - Im doing zero WFH and they cant touch me as i am LAPC and will never have to drive along I-10 again to those awful towers to report to an inept brown nosing boss and a bunch of dumb–s senior managers who were all along plotting to do a deal to sell the company to stupid VH
LOXY you are reaping what you have sown and deserve every ounce of pain and misery
Just remember the core values and everything will be okay. And remember to be safe and let others know you are safe. And let others know you practice integrity and trust (whatever the f— that means).
Agree 100% with the comment below. We have way too many useless and overpaid manager layers that just k–l employee morale with their micromanaging. The middle level managers are the ones that need to be audited since they likely haven’t earned their pay at home any more than the average worker (only they are way over compensated compared to the average worker). The guy wanting employee audits below likely is mad that he can’t micromanage from home. Guys like you are why oxy is such a toxic place to work, do us a favor and retire already.
“ They could likely be doing rigorous work audits by functional leaders and subject matter experts to rank employees. Look for early to mid October to start this process. Better get your ducks in a row by doing a look back on your accomplishments this year.”
Typical lame duck manager talk there. All the brown-nosers who made their way into those positions get to judge how the worker bees fare. Not biased at all.
Really they need “rigorous audits” for the lame managers who are kept on. Too many bad managers with power = poor work culture.
It’s pretty simple, but it’s always seem the employees who are axed. Oxy needs to realize that that technique hasn’t worked so far, so it should look at its management hierarchy. Duh. Rank your managers. Stop blaming your employees.
Well we all know the LAPC guys will have a job for two years. I know you guys might think that is bad, but it is more than most of the LOXY folks will have. When we are all gone you can change the company how you want it.

This is where you separate the doers from the people who hide in teams and just write or answer emails with opinions and no technical work. Plenty of these fake professionals floating around for a few rounds of layoffs without impacting the bottom line.
How long will Oxy keep paying us to WFH?
Its the best way for making money without doing anything
I love you VH
You are the best and most generous CEO ever
Thank you for sending me a monthly salary and not asking me to add value - Its just like you and the current BOD who are doing nothing but stealing money from shareholders
Just take the money and f— the company
They are a bunch of lowlife liars
How are they going to deal with all the demotivated WFH staff - No management, no guidance, no worthwhile work to do ....................................... just play games and drink Coors all day for $$$$$$$$
F— Oxy
Sure seems like a merger of equals. How many Anadarko people were just fired because of redundancy with the acquiring company’s resources?
Merger my A. Oxy jumped in a bidding war with a major and borrowed out the A to make it work financially and to avoid proper voting to leverage the company.
Buffet couldnt believe it took 1 hour to make minimum 8% on $10B. The French bought 75 trillion cubic feet of lng for pennies on the dollar and VH paraded around TV saying we did it all for the shale!.... yeah, merger is not what happened.
It was more of a merger than an acquisition.
Nothing against the APC side(unlike everyone else), But I do not get how we acquired 1 company yet adopt their vacation policy and weird performance review graph.
How did Oxy get turned into such an undesirable place to work in just two years?
Poor culture has nothing to do with poor performers. I have had great reviews the past 6 years at oxy and I hate this place. No, I’m not going to quit until I have another job lined up or the market improved so p*ss off with those comments.
Seems like the brewing oxy culture is just getting more toxic by the day. I would have gotten with HR and started slashing poor performers last year.
We should have done layoffs at least twice since VH took over. They thought they were helping attract new talent by having a no lay-off policy but it really ended up ruining the reputation for a well run organization. Now when asset sales take place there should some sort of additional reduction in staff. But to do this reduction we need to get people back in the office. Let’s hope that happens soon.
Yeah sure just axe everyone who is unmotivated. That'll fix the underlying issue.
This is the downside of Oxy not doing layoffs. Like a forest fire, sometimes you need a controlled burn to remove the underbrush to help the forest grow healthier. I don’t blame people who are lazy/unmotivated. They don’t owe the company anything. However it’s leadership’s job to clean these people out.
I’m in land and I am tired of the nepotism in that group. A guy was recently promoted in my group since his dad was a former land manager that was friends with the land VP. The turnover in land has been horrible for years and this is just one reason why.
I’m in my 50s, and the comment below is something I hear all too often from the younger generation. I think the problem at OXY is that management is not opening their ears and listening to the younger generation of employees. If they continue to do this, all the good talent will leave like the person below is trying to do and we will not be able to recruit new engineers and geologists in the future. WFH is the first time I have seen oxy management do something that maybe will help retention.
To quote a remarkable film that is still very relevant today: "It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care."
And to be honest, why should I? You can't hire an entire generation of workers under false pretenses and then act all shocked and surprised when they want to run for the hills. These management teams f—ed themselves. I would love to resign, but I'm also a fairly practical person. The job market is sh– and I don't yet have the skillset I need to change industries (although I'm working on that on the company's time). So I'm not going to just walk away from a solid salary and benefits because I'm butthurt about my job. At least not yet.
Also, and this is just a general comment, I think I and a lot of young folks like myself are realizing we don't like how inherently unstable oil and gas is. Of course we heard all the stories about booms and busts but it doesn't really sink in until you get to witness one yourself. Naive of us, sure, but we were also idealistic and looking forward to working in a field where we could have a direct impact on stuff that gets done. Something gritty and real. But this is a business for risk-takers, and it always has been, probably always will be. I'm still a young id–t but I do want to have a nice stable career in which I can support a family and not have to move every 5 years. Call me crazy.
Just reading the comments below, I think we can all agree that the majority of employees are disgruntled for various reasons and a change at the top is needed if we ever want to right this sinking ship.
Management and more importantly oxy legal knows that the moment someone gets COVID at oxy everyone is going to have to go back home and the company will be facing lawsuits. I don’t think posts on this site will matter one bit. Liabilities do.
All this only gives HR and management a reason to bring people back on Oct 1. If anyone in HR or management reads these “no work” comments they probably use them in their PP presentations for bringing people back. Too bad you are too lazy and have no work ethic. Plus, you don’t have the guts to quit, but you sure can complain.
Neither are you boomer. If you don’t like how the oil and gas industry is changing, such as WFH being a thing, climate change being a thing, minorities getting promoted instead of unlegit white guys like you, then retire, and go home to your ugly wife!
Again, if you don’t like it go resign. You are not a decision maker so who cares about your opinions.
If we are self entitled losers, you are probably some yes man middle manager who nodded their head and agreed with the horrible direction our management has taken this company. You can’t think for yourself can you? Look at our stock from 60 bucks down to 10. You need to retire already boomer, the world is changing and is moving on without you. Go home to your ugly wife and retire to the golf course.
To the employees with bad attitudes:
Why don’t you people grow up and get some work ethic. They pay you to do a job. Either do the job or resign. Oh, and forget about severance pay because you do not deserve it.
Both of you are self entitled losers. Please leave.
Comment immediately below is 100% on point. #disgruntledmillenial #fireVH
That's nonsense. The mere fact that many are out of work doesn't enable us to flip a switch and somehow give a sh–. We all have to make our own way in this world. This industry has been a downhill ride since 2014; for those of us who were recruited and brought in during that time, we are reaching our wit's end. First 5-6 years of our careers down the drain due to self-serving executives. Not to mention the death knell oil and gas has been dealt by shale failing so spectacularly. I will do the absolute minimum amount of work my job requires until they either get rid of me or I'm able to get out of this racket.
But yeah I'm supposed to care all of a sudden because the powers that be decided making tons of people unemployed was an appropriate response to COVID? You can f— all the way off.
