Thread regarding Barnes & Noble layoffs

CUT HOURS = WHO IS NEXT TO GO?

Ok so those of us who are back to work, sales are slower than imagined and hours are getting drastically cut.

I can't see them paying for full-time benefits much longer. What are your guesses?
B&N isn't know for offering people to be demoted, they'll just say get out!

Couldn’t agree more- no reason to shop at BN.

Very few stores are doing well except the CVS, Target, Costco’s of the world. Also a lot of people are supporting their town’s small businesses so they don’t shut down. For books it’s easier and cheaper for people to order from Amazon or go their independent bookstore. No reason now to shop at B&N.

My store is so crowded with many customers. WE are doing great and expect a great holiday season. WE brought back all furloughs. No one is cut here.

Weird. They expanded hours at my store. Either you're lying or my store is the only one in the company making hours. Brought back a ton of furloughed people as well....

Yeah Jacka*s, everyone’s lying. Except, you.
My stores cutting hours too. Maybe you’re the liar !

I know retailers who regularly cut shifts when business is slow. They ran tough ships but brought all furloughed employees back. My B&N store was always decent to us and never forced us to go home when the store was slow. We had plenty of booksellers. The company may be paying the price now as we know they lack the reserves and current revenue to afford payroll hence 50% or more booksellers, cleaners and other staff have been let go. Sadly their ship is sinking. They will be the next Lord &Taylor.

Are the managers still being a–holes or has everyone pretty much thrown in the towel?
I bet the higher ups are making sure their severances are protected.

Everyone needs to get out of retail. If you're young get a trade!

Just finished my shift. Hardly any business.I’m scheduled tomorrow. Manager told us to call an hour before our shifts. They may be cutting shifts and shortening them.
