Tesla is pretty much a cult now and the only reason they are in the position they are in is because some mo–nic politicians force traditional manufactures to buy pointless environmental tax credits. Straight profit for Tesla and they dont have to spend a dime to earn it. They also get to sell vehicles straight to consumer while everyone else is saddled with dealers they cant get rid of.

@3uav+16UIVOX0 assuming every customer wants a BEV. Tesla really has no advantage, most especially over Toyota. Toyota had the RAV4 BEV for sale in California like 15 years ago. They have the Marai fuel cell vehicle for sale in California right now. They have been doing hybrids in production for over 20 years. A hybrid is just a BEV with a smaller battery and engine bits (over simplified, but in essence that's it). Actually it takes more engineering resources to develop a hybrid over a BEV. Why do you think there are so many players in this BEV space? So whenever Toyota wants in, they will dominate. Also, the Japanese government will never let that company slide, they are top tier for Japan's GDP. Also, most Li-ion cell suppliers are based in Asia; Toyota has direct access with their new JV with Panasonic. And who does Tesla rely on? Panasonic. The Japanese supply base colludes with the Japanese OEMs. A few years ago they were caught red handed price fixing and Ford blacklisted several Japanese suppliers. And lest we forget Denso which is majority held by Toyota has their fingers in just about every car company on the planet. They know every competitor's plan, and we are foolish to source them. I can go on and on, but Tesla is all hype being propped up by the financial industry who got free government money to invest with no risk to them. More noise than anything.

Toyota,GM, and Ford are going to get their butt kicked by Tesla... Tesla is the future, because Tesla was first to the party

This GM vs. Ford thing is outdated thinking. Toyota kicked both Ford's and GM's teeth in years ago. The last conquest is full size truck. Next Tundra is going to be something; you can bet on it (they have nothing left to dominate). So GM can play around with Nikola, and likewise Ford with Rivian, but at the end of the day Toyota will win. The key to winning the EV race is to secure battery cells, and with Toyota's JV with Panasonic that is a step in the right direction. Neither Ford or GM have figured this out, and they will pay dearly when cell prices soar due to high demand. You talk fuel cell with this Nikola, Toyota has one on the road already. Much to be said when Toyota out earns the big3 combined, no idea how leadership at both companies are satisfied with this.

if i am not mistaken, GM will get to manufacture trucks that qualify for a 7500 federal tax credit through Nikola and at the same time purchase environmental tax credits from a company it has 11% interest in. Not a whole lot of downside when you also get to reduce the shared part costs. If it all fails, GM stock will still remain around 30 dollars.

@qic that is hilarious, I will have that picture in my mind forevermore. I can see Mary not only running all over Hackett, but also Farley, Bill and his entire family.

Although I believe Nikola is a scam GM may have a good deal when it all crumbles/collapses and they own what's left for whatever they paid???

Or not... only wise old Hindenburg knows

If even a fraction of the claims in this article are true then General Motors has made a colossal error:

Don't over estimate MarryT and the house of cards that is Nikola.

Nikola is a scam worse than the Tesla scam.

EV's in large quantity are questionably doable unless we get a commie govt and a green new deal that forces them on us.

VW, Daimler, lots of others are building their EV competitive portfolio so there is now lots of competition for the tiny percentage of EV market that only rich commie green true believers can afford.

Mary has a pair. None of the Jim's or Bill do not. She makes tough decisions. she does things not just talk about it. This merger for Hydrogen and EVs vehicles is big. But here at the Oval we sleep. Instead we listen to Mr. Rogers neighborhood about how good things are only to watch our top three execs sit back and let Kumar explain the VIP. That is the first sign of lack of leadership on those three stooges. Yes they are stooges. I don't think i heard a realistic thing come out of Billy mouth since Allan left. And the 2 Jim's are nothing but Lackeys. But as long as they get their big bonuses they will say and do as Billy I do not know what I am doing tells them too. When you watch Mary speak you can see she is a seasoned auto executive. Yes she has had her ups and downs with them over the years but GM has a vison and a plan they execute while we work at Disneyland

Jim will never best Mary.

Mary accomplishes things then reports her actual accomplishments

Jim talks about what he is gonna do for years, commissions puff pieces in the rags to report on all the amazing things he is gonna do. Yet he never actually has an accomplishment.

It must be tearing poor ole Jim up that he is being bested by a girl, horror of horrors.

Imagine GM CEO Mary Barra plays on Ohio State's offensive line.

That's basically how Jim Hackett pictures her.

So I do this thing where I go, 'Is Jim Hackett going to outplay Mary Barra today?' "
