Right - no company provided medical benefits. They presume you will retire, take your pension/401k, and sign up for the Retiree Medical Plan. Same benefits, higher price.

In 2019, SRD targets in IT were older employees with pensions. All the targeted IT employees that I knew were consistently strong contributors. Sadly, good annual performance did not protect those older employees!

I would have to agree that the Freep is wrong, or at least leaving out some important history. In 2008 & 2009 there were voluntary packages followed by involuntary separations. They appeared to target people who were recently promoted. In 2018 & 2019 there were voluntary early retirement packages and my organization had so many takers that we lost a lot of knowledge. We were told that the number of people who took the package far exceeded expectations leaving our headcount low. There would likely be hiring instead of involuntary separations. In 2019 there was SRD which, in my organization, seemed to target older employees with pensions. Most were shocked by the people who were separated as there wasn’t a slacker or under-performer in the bunch. There is much to be learned from history.

Let us spell it out for you so you understand why it is wrong - the Freep is wrong because no where in the story does it mention any inconvient facts such as in both recent times (in the 2000's - 2007/2008 and most recently in 2018/2019) when Ford has offered voluntary packages, no less than 6 months later they had involuntary layoffs.

Just a tiny bit of investigating reporting, instead of reguritating the half truths told by management, would go a long way to help ALL employees understand that for certian group of folks, you will either pay Ford now (take the VIP by end of 2020) or pay Ford later (kiss your 20 to 30 years goodby as you are suddeeny shown the door one day in 2021 and have less than an hour to clear out your desk and turn in all your stuff - no matter if you were a high performer or not)

per quote above: "As usual, the Freep is wrong, just spinning the c-ap coming out of the toilets at the Glass House that they make Kumar say."

Wait, so the news media "as usual ... is wrong" because it quotes top company execs?

Seems like the paper is providing accurate VIP information to employees and the public before it was released officially. Quoting company officials on their stated plans seems like a good thing, helpful.

As usual, the Freep is wrong, just spinning the c-ap coming out of the toilets at the Glass House that they make Kumar say. The same exact thing was said in 2018....and they even got more they they bargined for in takers of the PRP package in 2018 (I know, I was there - nearly half of management strucuture of an overall team of about 45 people was gone by October 2018. 9 people took the package, including all the L5's and the L4). Yet 2019 rolled around and lo and behold, involuntaries came around. Same thing in 2007/2008 - they made volutary offers in 2007, then had involuntraies in 2008. NO, involuntaries are coming, just a matter of when (likely by end of 2nd qtr 2021, but could be way sooner for some areas) not if.....you can take that to the bank.

So, not matter if you got the email invitation to VIP or not, do the right thing and protect yourself & your family first by doing some or all of the following(1) DO NOT go into 'employee of the month" mode by take on any more extra work or assignments, especially in any pet areas for your management structure or the company (like do not volunteer for Pulse committe stuff as an example) , That never usually works, as the way they decided who statys and who goes is usually decided by any mehod OTHER than actual job performance - usually depends on your cost to the company and/or if management 'likes" you or not. Instead devote your engeriges to retraining yourself and learning something new in your area of work....make sure it is in process and technolgies generally used in the inductry of your knowledge base outside of Ford, as Ford is notoriusly for being the only company to use their flavor of something; (2) get your financial house in order, and come up with a stratgy on how you would live if you suddently lost your job....you have more than 6 months to plan. (3) Relentlessly start an honest skills evlaution and start employing recruiters, job coaches, etc to ensure you posiiton yourself in the best way possible, and actually start applying for jobs now.....does not have to cost a ton of money, and having a third of eyes on you and your resume can never hurt. Also, going on interviews even if you only have a passing interest in a posiiton can get you back in "interview" shape for when the time comes to do it for real.

With the 2018 PRP - we had all of 2019 at zero cost for the plan I chose which was identical to what I had when employed.

For 2020 - same plan was jacked up to around $450 for family, with deductibles/out of pocket doubled. Yeah it s—ed, but it was expected. I can't wait to see what the 2021 plan looks like - still has to be better than buying into a plan on my own (hopefully). I have 5 more years until 65 - but no regrets retiring at 58! I have LOVED not working the past 2 years!!!!

Get out as soon as you can handle it financially. There is more to life than work.

Cobra for Family Rates - 1175.00/month

You and Spouse 756.00/month

You 320/month

Cobra will go up - alot in 2021 as will normal premiums for retirees and active employees will have "increased" costs passed on as well.

Healthcare Insurance @ Ford for active employees and retirees is becoming a big ticket item under heavy scrutiny currently. If your young and an actve employee you are in pretty good shape as far as costs go to the company.

If you are an active employee and are mid 40's+ stay on your toes and keep your options open.

Retirees - get ready for increased costs.

With 30 years you can retire and get pension or take lump sum. With that many years of service they use to provide medical until you could get Medicare when you retire. Did they stop doing that?

With PRP they included medical benefits but they more than doubled the monthly cost at renewal. With SRD you got medical during your severance period and after that you could get cobra (if you could afford it). At least with VIP you can budget for the actual cost when making your decision.

"The incentive package does not provide post-employment continuation of medical or dental or vision coverage or life insurance."

Confused - even if you have over 30 years - no medical??
