Laid off or Fired?

Anyone who was just let go after being furloughed; did you get your letter yet? I am attempting to fill out my unemployment form out but I just realized that the exact terminology of my departure from BN was never stated by my manager so I have no idea whether to say I was dismissed/discharged or laid off. Does the letter clarify anything?

The letter will specify that you were laid off and your last day worked. Keep it because you may possibly have to show it as proof for unemployment. That happened to a couple of friends of mine.

I have not received a letter nor did I receive the first one re the furlough. Perhaps they can’t afford the postage to send the letters out. I would use the word lay-off. After all they just let go 100’s nationwide. They laid us off because of poor business conditions. Make sure for the week you filed that you worked zero days at any job otherwise the labor department may disqualify your claim. Good luck! I hear that CVS, supermarkets, amazon and the gap companies have jobs.
