Former Esurance employee here. It was always hit or miss with whether once someone gave a 2 week notice you world be walked out or allowed to work 2 weeks.
How is it at Allstate? If I get a new position, how much notice should I give.

You are under no obligation to give notice at almost any job, it is a courtesy. They will not extend that courtesy to you if you are going to a competitor. If going to another insurance company, just wait till what you wanted to be your last day and make sure you clear out your desk the day before.
Read the Allstate policy on resigning. It states if you give notice & are going to a competitor, you must immediately leave.
Just say you are quitting for personal reasons (sick mom, etc.) or else say you are going to work at some bank or whatever; hence, the two week notice. Not like they can do anything when you start working for the competition and they find out later. If they want to be confrontational later (which they won't), just say a friend referred the job to you and the pay was too good to turn down, etc. People here need to learn the art of BS.
One week notice and don't tell where you're going.
In our office, if you are going to another insurance company, you are walked out as soon as you give your notice. This included people willing to work hard their last two weeks. It has led to a number of people cleaning out their desks after hours, then giving notice the first thing in the morning. Pay stops immediately.
